How often to change litter?

I have a 12 week old kitten. We have started using the Catsan Smart Pack which is £7.00 for 2 smart packs. I have changed it after 1 week, it wasnt smelly at all. How often should I do it? It seems rather expensive if I do change it weekly, or is that about right?

If I am using regular Catsan, how often would you change that?

Thanks in advance.

Clumping litter change take the clumps out and do a fully change once every couple weeks (4 weeks max, more often if your cat is smelly or messy!) and top it up when needed.
Non clumping should be changed a minimum of once a week.

Only use clumping litter if your kitten is showing no interest in eating or licking the litter.

I change my boy's clumping litter every two or three weeks. I find that three weeks is the most it can go before it starts to smell.

When we used clumping I did a whole wash and change every week or he wouldn't use it.

I'd switch to regular catsan, it'll save you a fortune.

I use sanicat from tesco. I have 2 indoor cats. I scoop every night. Get rid of all poo and clumps. It's not a really clumpy grit so doesn't clump as such just gets a bit thicker. We do a full box clean and refill whenever the box gets a bit smelly but as a rule of thumb that's once a week. We sometimes add a bit of extra fresh grit during the week when we scoop if it's running low but the box doesn't need a full change. A bag of sanicat is £2 iirc, and usually does us maybe 3 or so changes providing we don't need to do extra top ups.

Thank you all for your responses. Sounds like I am doing it a bit too often. I do like the convenience of the smart packs but they are very expensive.

I scoop clumps and poo in the evening and change it once a week.

I use Tesco clumping, scoop clumps once a day, top up every 3-4 days and change fully and clean tray every 4-6 weeks. Topping up and cleaning was more frequent when we had 2 cats. BorpCat1 prefers to go outside and doesn't make much mess.
