Shes six months and just starting to calm down. The tree would go where her favourite fat scratching post is. It doesnt bother me too much but i would like some nice flowers. Is that imposdible? Ive never had a cat before and someone told me that i cant even have those red plants that are everywhere!

It's true you can't have pointsettiers, lillies & I think amaryllis. Lillies will kill a cat very quickly.

If you do a tree use shatterproof baubles.

Go for a Christmasy evergreen display instead? The holly will keep her off. It looks nice with a few fir cones and things mixed in.

I have 9 week old kittens and my hairdresser told me they will climb my treShock

I don't think they will as the last time I had kittens they 5 months at Christmas - they didn't climb the tree, but did take off the baubles to play with. Grin

Thank you so much for the reminder about poinsettia - I usually put one by the fireplace!

Cyclamen plants are poisonous to cats too.

My 2 5 month old furbabies are a nightmare, they race and run and destroy all hanging things (it is brilliant!)
Tree went up on 1st and i was panicking that they would tear it down.....so far one bauble batted lightly and one case of drinking water from the tree holder (real tree)

they are just not bothered with it. however the pretty hanging on the door handle is on its last legs they love it

re Poinsettias - i love them and have always had them and always had cats and it was only this year i was told they are poisonous. i have looked them up and found this www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/poinsettia/
i might have one this year but i think i will keep it on kitchen windoledge where they dont go and will prob only get it when OH breaks up from work on 16th.

We have 9 cats, although previous Christmas' have had 10. We have a tree up, I actually have it near the window so I can tie a small piece of rope around it and hook it onto the curtain tie back hook. It's worked well and it's not been over this year (yet) or last year.

You do need to read up on what plants you shouldn't have around the house though.
