Something is wrong with my cat's mouth

I am of course making an appointment with the vet, but wondered if any of you more experienced cat owner can advise.

He is about 9 yrs old, and has always been in rude health, apart from missing a few chunks from fighting, he has been fighting again this week, his ear is scratched, so he may have damaged his mouth too.

He has a black bit on his gum, but he has had that for a year or so, and I've just noticed that some of the gum next to it is swollen. He doesn't appear to be in pain, is eating etc, and just did a through job of 'killing' my hand while I attempted to take a picture, so I'm not overly worried.

But what do you think? I'll be making an appointment for next week but will take him in as an emergency if anyone thinks is its necessary.

Thanks

Possibly an abscess from fighting. I'd see if you could get a quicker appointment.

Yeah if happened since fighting I would assume infection i'm afraid!

The sooner that AB's started (and pain relief) the better.
