Cats in the attic?

I have a terrific mouser. I also have mice in the attic. The mice are so bloody noisy I can't sleep.

Would it be cruel to pop the cat up there for the night?

What's the 'attic' like? Smile IE - is it just a top room accessed by a stair or is it a hole in the ceiling which almost requires a military operation to reach?

I would have thought the sound of a cat chasing mice all night would be worse than the mice! Mine sounds like a baby elephant when he sneaks a victim into to house to play with ( although he's presumably stealthy enough to catch them in the first place). Maybe a daytime job, if the cats a good mouser it would be exciting enough to stay awake for? You'd have to de-corpse afterwards or it would start to smell.

Does the attic have floorboards or is it just insulated? If they get the insulation stuff in their paws it won't be good. I live in fear of getting glis glis in ours, but I couldn't put the cats up there because so much of it is not boarded, and it's also just a loft ladder access.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2016 17:57

Fibre glass insulation is a vets bill waiting to happen. Plus you have to explain how you the cat came to be in the loft. Plus mice give cats worms. Plus it might need a poo while it's up there.

Call pest control.

cozietoesie · 01/12/2016 18:11

And don't put poison up there in case the blighters decide to migrate to another part of the house.

JellyWitch · 01/12/2016 18:13

I would. Our cat is banned from the loft because I don't want her going down the cavity wall. But a proper roomed attic: definitely!

Araminta99 · 02/12/2016 11:41

No that sounds really dangerous and unsafe. Call a pest control service!

DubiousCredentials · 02/12/2016 12:08

Our cat always nips up into the loft whenever the hatch is open. She knows the sound of the ladder now and is straight there Confused Not sure what the attraction is probably mice.

buckingfrolicks · 02/12/2016 18:26

Hmmm hadn't thought about insulation but that's there, and corpses yuk. It's a hell hole up a ladder jobby so I guess pest control it is. Sigh. I was hopeful that the blighted could have made a useful contribution!
