Recommend chip operated cat flaps

Talk to me about catflaps.

We have had the staywell petporte smart flap for just over two years and it's broken already. The chip sensor seems to have stopped working and the flap catches so it doesn't lock shut after he comes in.

As a result, we have all the local cats coming in and our poor boy is very agitated.

We obviously need a chip operated cat flap to stop all of the unwanted intruders. Can you recommend any good ones that won't break after just a couple of years?

We have the Sureflap and it's been fab. This is our second one, not because our first one broke but because we had a new back door and I wanted a nice new shiney flap to go in it. Also, our first one was the cat flap size which is quite small if you have a largish cat or, as we had at the time, an older cat who was less agile and struggled sometimes. When we bought the second one we bought the pet flap size which is not as huge as it sounds. I've attached a photo to give you an idea.

It also has a curfew setting which is really handy and Sureflap have an excellent customer service dept.

Are your kitties waiting for the end of their curfew?

I've got this one:

www.amazon.co.uk/Mate-Elite-Microchip-Timer-Control/dp/B009GODTTK

The main draws were the timer control and the fact it uses the cat's own implanted microchip and not those collar tags which get lost. I've had it about 18 months and it's going strong.

I've had a Staywell one for five and half years, and it's still going strong. Think I've only had to change the battery once.

I'd ring them up and speak to them.

Thank you TopKittyCat. No they are not under curfew they are being wimps! If you look closely at the photo you can just see another cat on the other side. She lives next door, literally weighs about 3lbs, and they are petrified of her! She is always going for them and teasing them through the flap. They will sit there for ages waiting for her to leave but she just sits there taunting them. Many a time I let them out the front door to save their face!

Pet porter here, brilliant service when one broke and had this one for about five years.

Thanks all.
I actually took the advice of
TimeIhadaNameChange and they are sending us a replacement cat flap. Great customer service!

Icequeen - that's hilarious!

I've never found one that works so have given up. None of them work properly in my opinion :(
