My cats moving back In

Any advice is greatly appreciated...

My mum has had my male cat (7 years old) for about three years whilst I have been living in rented places who didn't allow animals.

He is due to come back and live with me and my partner and our young daughter on Monday.

I am just concerned as I live literally down the road from my mums so thinking surely when I start letting him out he will just be going straight back to mums.

I was going to keep him indoors for a couple of weeks then let him out gradually over another two week period to get him used to the new area.

I don't think he wonders down my end of the road but I'm sure he will know where he used to live.

Does anyone have any advice? Will he more than likely go back up to my mums no matter how long we keep him in?

At least it's your Mum and she's used to him if he turns up. It's his own choice really. If he sees your house as his home, he'll come back to you. If he prefers, perhaps, a quieter environment - how old is your daughter? - as some cats do, he might head for hers.

Did you have him for his first years?

Yea he was mine since he was a kitten and I still see him most days as we pop over to mums. He is great with my disgorged but she is 18 months so maybe he will go back to mums as it's most definitely more peaceful.

Is keeping a cat inside for the first couple of weeks a good idea do you think?

We were told to keep our cat in for 6 weeks by the shelter when we got her and then gradually allow outdoor access. I'd assume the same length of time would be appropriate in your situation too.
