Darling cat missing - please hold my hand

My darling furry soulmate has gone missing and I'm absolutely distraught Sad

She's a six year old black and white and I've had her since she was five weeks old (I rescued her from being dispensed of by some horrible people).

I don't know what to do. I can't stop crying. I've notified the microchip people, put up some posters and posted some flyers.

She's always back in the house at exactly 9pm every evening, you could set your watch by her. But she didn't come home last night and there's been no sign of her all day.

I just need a wee hand hold. I can't stand the thought she's alone and scared somewhere Sad

Leave a flyer at the reception of the local vets
Leave flyers at the local pet store
Have you tried walking around the local area shaking treats?

I have mine trained to come to shaking the treats. They always get a treat when I shake the packet. This means they are tucked up in bed by 10.30.

I have fingers & toes crossed for you. I was so stressed when I couldn't find my girl so I know how you are feeling.

Vinorosso74 · 14/10/2016 11:38

Probably a long shot but I just got back from the vets and a man had a B&W cat with him he'd brought in to check for a chip. I only commented as cat was so like mine. That was in London if that's your area.

OttersPocket · 14/10/2016 19:47

Thank you for the tips everyone. Here was a potential sighting of her in a park but it's not confirmed it was her and it was far from home. Is it likely a spayed, female cat would go far?

Thank you vinorosso, I'm in Edinburgh so not my girl. But thanks.

It's 'possible', Otters. Cats can do daft things - even get into cars and vans out of curiosity and be taken quite far away.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/10/2016 20:05

I'd check it out or you might always wonder.

Vinorosso74 · 14/10/2016 20:26

Ah thought it was a long shot. To be honest if the cat I saw was chipped our vets would have contacted owner. It was just I read your post after seeing the cat and made me think.
I hope she's back soon and I would check out the sighting in a park.

OttersPocket · 14/10/2016 20:30

I did go and look in the park but couldn't find any cats. I put up a poster as you never know I suppose...

Oh dear. It's hard to stay positive.

Otters.. I went to view a flatshare years ago. They had a v cute little cat. They told me that he had just returned after disappearing for 9 years!!! Don't give up hope.. they can surprise us at any time. Keep looking and you are doing the right thing re flyers.. people are v helpful when it comes to pets as most of us have had one at some point in our lives

Another handhold here. I had one that went missing for 5 days once. She came home with bits of paint on her paws and smelling as if she'd been in a shed. I'm guessing she had gone in a neighbours shed and they had accidentally locked her in. There are lots of threads on here of cats that returned home safe and well so try to stay positive.

PosiePootlePerkins · 15/10/2016 21:29

Just checking in to see if any news. Thinking of you tonight.

RubbishMantra · 15/10/2016 21:43

Oh, I hope she's back soon, you must be beside yourself.

Have you tried going out with a torch, whilst rattling treats and calling, it picks up the reflection of their eyes. (apologies if it's already been suggested).

veganburgerqueen · 15/10/2016 21:56

Years ago we had a (neutered) ginger Tom who went missing. Several months went by and suddenly we saw an advert in our local newspaper about a cat who sounded like him. It turned out to be him, miles from home. I just wanted to say don't give up hope. I hope you have good news soon Flowers.

claraschu · 15/10/2016 22:16

My lovely cat was missing for 10 days. I was absolutely distraught, had gone and talked to everyone in our village. One of our neighbours saw her, and I finally found her lurking in a hedge quite nearby. Don't give up hope.

Acorn44 · 15/10/2016 22:39

Thinking of you. Remember it's still early days. One of my mum's beloved cats disappeared and we were all beside ourselves. Had nearly given up hope when we had a call three weeks later . He'd been found in a local school by the caretaker. School was on holiday and he'd been locked in!

Really hope she's home again soon. Flowers

Mines just been found after two months, 35 miles away living for the past month in a car park of a shopping centre.
The shopping centre is a mile from my mums house ( I had taken him to stay there a week before he went missing, but not let him out ) and I had used the shopping centre frequently and got my hair cut there.
Never give up hope

OttersPocket · 19/10/2016 23:46

I thought I should give you all an update.

Darling cat has been spotted not far from home - we live on a very long street and she was seen at the other end. My husband and I went to investigate separately (as the other had to stay in with our toddler) and we have both seen her! She came within in few feet of me after I crawled into some thick hedging but alas, she keeps running away. There's no way we could retrieve her tonight, she's so spooked.

So on one hand I'm happy she's alive and seemingly quite well. But in the other I'm distraught that I've had to leave her alone out there again tonight knowing she's spooked and scared. I have no idea how we're going to catch her though. Any ideas?!

Do you have anybody - e.g. A local CPL or vet - that you could borrow a livetrap cage from? (The sort that you put some food in and it shuts behind them when they eat.) If you know roughly where she is at any rate ?

Papergirl1968 · 20/10/2016 07:55

Maybe sit really quietly talking to her and offering dreamies or whatever her favourite treat is. Yes, I do realise this will look as if you are talking to the hedge, lol. Good luck!

OttersPocket · 20/10/2016 11:25

Thanks everyone.

My DM and DD are coming over later to help us catch her. My DD is collecting a cat trap from the local cat rescue place should we need to use it. I'm determined to get her home tonight and to the vets tomorrow.

Wish us luck!

devilinme · 20/10/2016 12:08

Take Dreamies with you, the crack cocaine for cats!

Vinorosso74 · 20/10/2016 12:25

So pleased you've located her. Good luck catching her

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/10/2016 20:52

Good luck this evening, here's hoping that hunger will be on your side and you have a successful cat capture! Let us know how it goes.

thecatneuterer · 20/10/2016 20:57

Good luck. I find hot fried chicken shop chicken to be the best thing for trapping. It's the smell I imagine.

OttersPocket · 20/10/2016 23:21

No luck tonight. I saw her at 4pm when I did a circuit of the area but I had my DS in the pram and, although she acknowledged me, she ran away. Then of course there was no sign of her when we went out on patrol tonight.

It's so incredibly frustrating.
