Four cat bowls for 50 pence....

....at the charity shop this morning. Ex fruit/cereal bowls from a couple of sets that people were flinging the remnants of, I guess, but all dishwasher proof etc - if you use one. They're two different patterns and not the same pattern as the rest of the stack but the same basic shape. I really don't think that Seniorboy gives two hoots about the patterns anyway.

They really don't like eating out of plastic bowls do they?

I'm a bit of a mug, and bought Their Lordships a cat-face water bowl, because it was nice and wide. It cost more than 50p.

The upside is, I've actually seen him drink from it.

Bargain! I bought heart shaped china bowls from Poundland they're lasting well.

Puccini doesn't like plastic bowls but ok with melamine ones weirdly.

I started off using my mother's left over bowls/plates - until I priced one and nearly took to gin at the narrowness of my escape. Since then, it's usually the local charity shop for bowls and cat toys. (Charity shops seem to have an endless supply of soft toys of just the right size for dipping and throwing. In a washing machine on a soft wash and they're often like new again.)

Just so. Most people have something in the cupboard that will do fine. (Or a friend or relative will.)

I've always used metal bowls and each cat uses them, hand me downs for each cat. I'm currently catless but the next kitty will have them too.

Water bowls a bit tricky. The fountain was ignored in favour of plastic takeaway containers. Apparently they don't like their whiskers touching the sides of round bowls.

The dogs have always had metal food bowls. (Although it's almost not worth it for the length of time a dog takes to eat their meal.) For water, the dogs have the glass insides of old washing machine doors which work perfectly for them. (Cats have those soup bowls/mugs that have handles.)

We have two plastic biscuit dispenser things (the ones that hold about a weeks supply) and then there are two metal water bowls and two metal food bowls for wet food.

Bella can't use plastic or metal as she has an allergy. We she has two of those cat face shaped bowls for water and biscuits and I was using a plate for her wet food but she kept knocking it everywhere so she's using one of the soup bowls now.

I may have to investigate the charity shops.

Mine have a fish shaped feeding station that was ridiculously overpriced! Do think my parents are a bit mean feeding their boy in a disposable bowl. However he does have his water in the last surviving bowl from the dinner service they got when they got married 38 years ago.

I bought our cat a china Tracey Emin bowl to drink his water out of one Christmas.

The cat had matching metal bowls. Now I use a tiny sauce dipping bowl or else DP feels the cat has too little to eat and gives her way too much. The water bowl is a huge glass baking tray. Anything smaller gets tipped by Qwebecat. She hates the geting wet part, but loves to watch the water flowing everywhere.

My Siamese likes fetching an be chewing soft toys, but only a certain kind ... They have to be about ten cm big and soft and stuffed but not too full ... Then I have tidy watch him like a hawk, because he chews into them and the stuffing starts to leak. He used to pinch dds toys ... Now I look in charity shops, but rarely find anything. He loves the tiny Disney toys that Clinton cards sell at the moment ... Tsum tsums??? But can destroy them in a day, so they're too expensive.

Meant to say, mine hate plastic bowls, I buy Mason and Cash cat saucers from Wilkinsons, they have lasted me years and years.

Seniorboy - also a Siamese - developed a deep love for a small charity shop brown and white stuffed dog with big floppy ears which he used to 'dip' and chew in his food bowl after flinging around. Unfortunately, it was becoming a little disreputable - and even more unfortunately, it turned out to be American by birth and an item for which replacements weren't readily available domestically.

That's the one great disadvantage of charity shops. You have to take what you get.

I imported a big flipping bag of them which I found somewhere.

Was he interested? He was not.
Did he deviate from Brown Dog? He did not.

Brown Dog now has ears like finest lace and every time he goes in the washing machine, it's a matter of prayerful speculation as to whether he comes out again intact.

So far, he has - and I have a ruddy bag of stuffed toys in the laundry.

Yes .. Could be my Siamese too. I've sewn so many of them until there's not any fabric left to piece together, then I go looking for another .. I never find the right ones in the charity shop though ... And ideally he prefers to pinch them from dds room

You sometimes have to check them through to make sure they don't have any 'internals' that might be objectionable with much chewing but that's easily done. By and large, they're all excellent toys and they do seem to wash up a treat.

Mine eat off Emma Bridgewater pasta bowls bought in the sale. They are heavy, wide and shallow, perfect for hungry cats with very low level table manners.
