Fireguard?

This is probably a very dim question but do I need a fireguard now we've got a kitten in the house? I haven't used one for years.
Or will he instinctively know to stay away from the flames?

My cat tries to sniff fire, and candles.

I'd get a guard. Cats risk assessment skills are rubbish.

You can get cat-proof fire guards, though not very pleasing to the eye.

Little M's a candle sniffer too Fluffy, but he doesn't have any whiskers to singe, because they're curly and brittle and break off. He has 'designer stubble', apart from the odd few that grow in all directions. A friend who works in drug recovery remarked he looks like some of his more unkempt clients.

I've always found that my cats have instinctively stayed away from a blaze. But you need a fire guard anyway for safety surely?

Sorry - that should really be 'stayed at a safe distance'. They liked to sprawl in front of an open fire.
