After 21 years of companionship my old girl was just to tired to go on.Sad
I can't believe she was walking down the garden in the sun just 24 hours ago & now she's gone.
I'm so upset & don't know how I'm going to tell the kids.
It's so hard.

Yes. Very hard. How old (roughly) are the DCs?

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 12:27

Ranging From 6 to 21.
Eldest has recently gone back to uni & I really don't know if I can or even want to tell over the phone.
Our sweet girl has been with us nearly all her life, she used to push her around in the dolls pram.

I'm sorry for your lossFlowers What a wonderful long life she had with you.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 12:41

Thank you Posie, yes she did have a lovely long life with us & I know how she went was best as she hasn't suffered as some elderly pets can.
It's just happened so quick, the dogs are looking for her & DH has gone out,he doesn't want to be here at the moment.

The void they leave behind is awful, especially after so many years. Had my old girl for 18 years, when she went it was just so strange in the house. You don't realise how much they are on your radar. I am thinking of you.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 16:41

Well I've told the DC that are home,so many tears & I'm sure there will be more to come.
I'm not sure what to do about the eldest,I hate to think of her upset away from home.
My eyes are so sore & I'm exhausted.

cozietoesie · 04/10/2016 16:47

What sort of relationship did she have with your old girl?

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 17:09

She was close with her Cozie, she loves all the animals and we had Tigger since she was tiny, she grew up with her.
We've had a few dogs over the years but only ever 1 cat.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 04/10/2016 17:19

You have to tell her, though.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 18:58

I know Cozie,I think I was trying to convince myself that I could put it off until she comes home for the weekend but I know that's not realistic.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 20:10

Dd rang not long ago so I've told her, hate breaking horrible news over the phone but I guess it had to be done.
We've decided to have her cremated & will put her ashes in her favourite place in the garden when Dd comes home next.

Goodbye my sweet friend.

Well done. That can't have been easy for either of you.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 20:40

It was really difficult, but I feel relieved that I've done it now.
Can't believe how upset I am,in my heart I know she was old and has had a really good life but I feel devastated.
Thank you so much Cozie for listening to my waffling & helping me today.Wine

I always light a candle for newly departed friends. Maybe that might help you also? (It's not me being woo just as a ......something. I don't know.)

cozietoesie · 04/10/2016 20:51

In any case, tonight is a night - of all nights - for trying to get some rest.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/10/2016 20:52

Don't worry about woo,I also light candles.
This afternoon I was out the kitchen & something in the garden caught my eye,it was a beautiful orange butterfly!
Butterfly's are very symbolic to me.

Watcher 21 years is outstanding! What a lovely companion YOU must have been!! Your girls will be ok after a while. I loved and lost so many dear friends as a child and teenager, but it never harmed me....in fact, I learned so much from my small friends with how to cope with bereavement, how to cherish life, how to carry on...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/10/2016 22:21

What a gorgeous cat.

I'm so sorry, how awful but what a great life she had with you. I returned pushing my Nan's cat around in a dolls pram Smile Flowers

MountainDweller · 07/10/2016 22:25

Oh, she is lovely. So sorry for your loss. Flowers

WatcherOfTheNight · 08/10/2016 09:54

Thank you everyone,I hadn't noticed these posts.
She truly was the sweetest, gentle little thing & we are missing her so much at the moment.
I keep on automatically going to get her dish when I feed the dogs, after all the years we had her it's going to take a while to sink in I think.

She was a beauty

We had our old girl PTS at 20 and it's hard - such a long time for them to be in your family. No wonder it's devastating

WatcherOfTheNight · 11/10/2016 20:18

It really is Yoda, such a long time & I know it's to be expected with her age but she was also our first pet as a couple & although we've 2 dogs but it still feels a bit empty & different here.
The Labrador is still Looking for her,how odd it must seem to them.
She was cremated yesterday so should be home with us in a few days.

Yes, I always say ours was our first baby. Our practice baby.

It must be so sad to see your dog's confusion
