Spaying Q

We saw the vet today for our new kitten check and to book nutering etc. The vet offered 2 different ways of spaying one is traditional and the other abdominal 😕. I was a little surprised at a choice but it's apparently to avoid hair regrow th of a different shade????
What should I do? Yes my kitten is a pedigree but she's not for breeding or showing just a pet.
Does fur really grow back a different colour? I have never noticed this on cats and lots of nutered cats prowling the village . My last cat was a boy so his was a simple situation,
I just said as I had never heard of a choice whatever is less painful but I'm now wondering if I should have been a bit more clued up. The ops in November so I have time to decide.

I've never heard of fur growing back a different colour - how ridiculous.There are occasionally reasons to to a midline spay (ie underneath) but not many, and it's generally not recommended as, to put it bluntly, should the stitches split then the cat's guts can spill out onto the floor.

Go for the traditional method. And out of interest, what age will she be when the vet recommends having her done? Some vets are out of touch. Four to five months is the recommended age.

It will grow back darker with Himalayan mutations TCN (Siamese etc) - but it should be only temporary until there's new hair growth at the normal temperature.

Sorry - it will likely grow back darker. (It's temperature dependent.)

Ok I will go for the normal method, that was my instinct. I was so shocked to be offered a choice.
My cat is a Burmese so perhaps that is why the vet offered the option. Good to know its a temporary colour change but if that's the case why do midline and have more risks for the cat? I am really confused.
She will be just under 5 months I was very firm about wanting her done ASAP. Thanks to the info on my last post.

I can't speak for the fur colouring or risks, but I believe it is purely an aesthetic choice (usually for pedigrees). And if I remember correctly then midline is quite a bit more expensive, too.

My birmans both grew back darker but it faded with time.

Nelleflower I have a Burmese and was given the same option. I chose a traditional spay as, like yours, she's not a show cat (though obviously she is, in my biased opinion, totally gorgeous Grin) so I didn't care if her colouring wasn't even. It took a few weeks for the fur to grow back and I can't even remember which side it was done now as her hair colour is absolutely the same all over.

What colour is she? I bet she's absolutely scrumptious! Smile

How interesting! I'm in Canada and never heard of any other kind of spaying than midline. I wonder why practices vary so much.

Oh - and 5 months is not too soon if she's healthy and of a reasonable weight.
