My new kitten came with 4 weeks pet plan, any advice on which company I should insure her with when it runs out?

I would stick with Pet Plan. They are the only company I've had to claim from and they paid when even the vet thought they wouldn't.

If you do decide to change, stay away from any company underwritten by RSA as, if your cat ever needed to be referred, they have a very short list of specialists they will refer to without extra cost.

We're with PetPlan. About to claim for the very first time so don't know how good they are, but Cats Protection recommended them, as they are one of few insurers who cover dental costs.

That was what we claimed for Puffinity. It was touch and go whether they would pay but thankfully they did. Because of his age we had to pay 20% of the fees plus the excess but it was still better than paying over £2.5K! There's a chance he'll need more dental treatment in the future so we'll probably be claiming again.

Just read the small print! I'm with Tescos and although I was able to do a direct claim for over £1000 when my male cat was poorly 4 years ago, he's no longer covered for any repeat issues. Lifelong cover would be my choice if I could do it over again.

2 cats with Tesco's
One of them has had various issues ( nothing life threatening) they are 10 years old. Now cost £49.00 a month ( for the pair)
Excess is £50
Have looked around for a better deal,but some companies won't consider due to cats age, some have an excess of £75+
Some won't take the cats on due to previous (minor) treatment.
I dread to think how much it could cost in 5 years time.

tesco, petplan are daylight robbers.

They wanted £160 to insure a 1yo cat with no problems.. my premium went up from just under £10 a month to just over £14, and they apparently justified it by trying to tell me 'cats get sick when they get older"

We're with John Lewis but the excess is 150 quid. It's lifelong and takes on any new conditions that crop up along the way.

Another vote for Petplan here. Go for lifetime may cost a bit more but they pay out high amounts. Vet bills can run into thousands.
If you opt for a lesser cover put a bit of money aside each month to cover vet bills.

As a previous poster said lifetime is the way to go whichever provider you choose.

I was wary of paying the extra for Petplan, but after a disastrous year with NewCat, who is a total klutz and falls out of trees, they haven't raised the premium at all, despite coughing up well over £1000 in vet's bills.

Most company's don't cover dental work which is why you should always brush your cat or dogs teeth no matter how much they don't like it :)

That was one of the reasons we went with Petplan, although we obviously didn't know Harry had problems at the time.

Not Petplan. Had been with them for years but when made a claim they fought and fought to avoid paying out (and succeeded) despite four letters from my vet who couldn't believe they wouldn't meet the claim. Also their prices are ridiculous. Avoid.
