PuffinCat's lip looks weird

I know cats don't really have lips, and that's exactly the point. When we got PuffinCat 3-4 weeks ago, her lower lip looked a bit thick, almost like she was sulking and she had it turned outward a little, iyswim. Then it disappeared and I thought I must have imagined it. Now it's back, but it's a little more to one side. Need I worry? She's still scarfing down her food at an alarming rate and seems her usual demanding self, but this is a bit odd. She won't really let us touch it, but I think that's more because she finds it annoying than because it actually hurts (she's not aggressive/ defensive when we try to hold her face to have a closer look, just tries to wriggle free).

That is often caused by an allergy. Often it is flea allergy, but sometimes it is something else. Sometimes, if it's something else, the only thing that can be done is to give steroids, but that can only be an occasional treatment and is often considered that the potential harm of such treatment outweighs the benefits.

So first, make sure she doesn't have fleas, then think about seeing a vet. It's not urgent though and I would see how it goes for a while first.

My cat has had this from time to time, but it has always gone away by itself. She gets an itchy scabby neck at the same time. The vet thought it could be an allergy, but wasn't too concerned as it is transitory. I've stopped giving her food containing fish (especially Sheba), and stopped using scented cat litter, as these seemed like possible causes. Fingers crossed it won't happen again.

Hi! Thanks for your replies! Called the vet's today and they also said possible allergy, or a sting or an abscess, but the latter two are highly unlikely. We gave her her flea treatment about two weeks ago and she doesn't really go out yet, so wouldn't be flea allergy. The vet's said to bring her in to check it out, so we have an appointment booked for Saturday. Will see how it goes, might cancel it if she seems fine.

One of ours had that too, I suspected she might have been bitten by a rodent and the bite swelled slightly? That was only my guess though. No fleas, she'd had treatment. We discovered - when we got the cats - that we had mice, which we hadn't suspected.

Whatever it was, it went away after a couple of days.

Update: we've just been to the vet's. She said it did look sore and swollen and could develop into an abscess. She didn't think it was an allergy, but could be an old bite/ sting. She gave her one injection of antibiotics and one of steroids, which should kick in quickly. PuffinCat was very well-behaved at and didn't complain about the injections at all. This made me very proud which I realise is completely unwarranted

Maybe so - but I recall taking Twoago to his vet and positively preening when I caught sight of his file on the receptionist's desk and it said 'Temperament - Good'.
