Fostering - should I?

Having lost both cats in the space of three weeks I find myself catless for the first time since 1992. For various reasons I don't want to take on ownership of a new cat for a while but I am missing having a cat around. I took a look at the CPL website and they do seem to need fosterers. I'm very tempted. Has anyone done this? Were there downsides?

I'm interested in doing this too, also catless for the first time in many years but not sure I want to make the 15 year commitment again. But miss having a mog about.

Sorry if I'm hijacking but i have 3 kids age 5 to 12. Could I still foster? They are in school and at their dads weekends so the house is pretty quiet mostly.

I've done it very short term for a couple of nights. It's really hard to let them go. And they'd only been with me one or two nights. Still massively regret not keeping one of them.

I am currently cat sitting for a friend and then am going to foster for cats protection. I am very excited about having kittens around again although DP has his doubts about me letting them go.

I used to foster kittens who needed bottle feeding for the rspca. Very rewarding and easier than I thought - then did the rehoming with rspca paperwork myself.

Prob had over 50 kittens in my time. And 2 puppies but never that again!! Go for it!

Should mention I kept a ginger cutie who had cat flu but lived for many years!!

I have two long term fosters...very rewarding.all vets bills etc paid and I have full back up if I need it ( they both have serious health problems) downsides are that we know they won't be around for years- they have already well outlived vets likely timescales..I know it will be hard when they go but the upside is they have had good,well loved if short lives which they wouldn't have had if they hadn't been fostered.when kids are older I intend to short term foster kittens etc too...

We probably wouldn't be able to do long term fostering, for the reasons we can't get a cat of our own. I was thinking ideally of having a cat for a few weeks or months. I would love kittens but I'm not sure DH is so keen and he is at home all day working so has to have some sort of say in it.
