I put the special litter stuff I got from the vet for collecting urine out for BrokenCat last night. I have kept her in. She will not use it.
I was sure I would wake up to it having been used.
Still nothing.
She Does Not Like It, because it is Different.
How is she not bursting?!
Fucking cats.

Took me 18 hours to get one out of my old boy. Who used to pee every couple of hours in his normal litter. Once I'd got the few drops he'd managed, emptied the plastic and put his normal litter back in he did the biggest wee known to catkind - and he was a tiny little boy!

I use the 'saucer under the backside' method. It works - and it's the only one which will with my lad.

Aaah, the joys of trying to get a sample. Ours used it fine at first then we had several protests. Our latest vet suggested to try using lentils. Unfortunately, that failed as I think you need to get the sample straight away or maybe I tried the wrong lentils.

I get mine to wee in the bath.

Glad to know it's not just me.

I might try putting litter in her other tray and picking her up mid pee and plonking her in the sample one

I had to do this for my cat once. He wanted to pee, he moaned and groaned, fussed and farted as he wanted to go out. I said to him "if you pee in the tray I will let you out". To my amazement, he went in his tray and peed. I got the sample, he then went outside.

It was such a lovely afternoon I gave in and let her out. She doesn't go to the toilet outside but guess she might have made an exception. I fail at this. Another go overnight maybe. Or if I can spot and ninja stalk her, will try lifting/ saucer.

Peeing in a saucer is a doddle if you're going to be around when they do it. You just have to have the clean collection vessel near to the tray (Seniorboy has the base of an antique coffee can set so it's perhaps a little deeper and less in diameter than a traditional saucer) and when they're actually 'committed' to the pee, you just gently stick it under their backside. (Then suck it up with a little pipette which you can get from the vet and squirt into its vial.)

Even starting to collect when the flow has started, you'll still get more than enough.

Just be careful with the saucer - no dropping the contents!

No joy. Poor fur baby was waiting for me to pour the litter in and jumped in.
I tried the lifting thing, no, Madam was not moving.
I am ninja stalking her when she next goes and trying the saucer. I don't actually have saucers, but found a small shallow dish.

If the little dish is patterned, you may just not realise how much there is in it. You'll get enough.

Just be sure to leave the dish close to the tray and practice some 'nonchalant sauntering' across. (And make sure there are no eg rug edges to trip on ! )
