Possible pregnancy

My cat is almost 2 and we live in the middle of nowhere, no neighbours for about 3miles, she's an indoor/outdoor cat and hasn't been neutered. We were looking for a male as we was going to breed from her once before getting her done. (Help keep the mice down of the farm) said male cat that we did get turned out to be female . She went out, disappeared for 2 days about 10/14 days ago I think she was coming into heat again( not 100%) and when she came back she wasn't in heat. I know cats can wander far and come back so there is the slight possibility she is. Her nipples seem to be turning quite pink and appear a lot larger than before and her abdomen is also larger more when you look at her from behind. She's booked into the vets on Thursday. But are there any other signs I could look for?

Lack of appetite
Tiredness and lethargic
Quite rare but vomiting.
She disappeared for a few days. When she was in heat. She comes back with pink large nipples. I think its all signs that kittens are on their way.
Awwww, bless. I don't think you'll have any problems finding homes for them. There's always someone looking for a cute little kitten.
Obviously you don't need me to tell you to get her neutered after she has her babies. To avoid another pregnancy. At least she'll have had a litter. I might get flamed for this but. IMO it's cruel to not let them have at least one litter.

Are you looking to get the other female neutered, if the other girl is pregnant? And the other kittens that you'll be keeping, including the males?

If she isn't pregnant, would you consider contacting cat shelters? They strive hard to find homes for outdoor cats, who prefer to live in a farm environment. After all, your existing cats and possible offspring may not be mousers.

Just out of interest Lighthouse, why do you think it's cruel not to allow them to have at least one litter?

I'm also interested to know the cruel to not breed thing?

I think it's worse to bring more kittens into the world when there are already so many homeless cats and kittens.

There really isn't. Rescues are awash with kittens and are just not getting enough homes coming in. Unfortunately people have found they can sell kittens on Facebook and such and it's encouraging people to breed their cats. There are just too many cats and not enough homes.

It most certainly is not cruel to not let a cat have at least one litter. There is no benefit to the cat in this whatsoever, and a huge detriment to cat-kind.

And shelters always have a huge number of feral/semi-feral cats looking for homes in farms and such. There is no excuse to not neuter your cats.

OR, people like the idea of a 'cute little kitten', but not so keen on the costs, insurance, neutering, yearly vaccinations, flea/worming treatments to name a few.

I knew a woman who would let her multiple cats breed, with each other, neighborhood toms etc. Never played with them/gave them stimulation.

She'd give the kits away, one woman who'd been given one of those kittens took it out in a fucking wicker shopping basket to show it off, when somebody enquired was that safe, her response was that one of her kids had sat on it and it had a sore leg, so it couldn't jump out the basket, because it was injured. Didn't take to the vet, kitten didn't live long.

Eventually the woman who couldn't be arsed to get her 10-ish cats neutered decided she couldn't cope rang the RSPCA. Guess what? within 6 months she got another kitten, who had kittens when she was still a kit herself. Kept one, neutered neither, and the whole sorry story began again.

Sorry if this turned into a bit of a ramble, but the point I'm trying to make is that, yes, easy to find homes for 'cute kittens'. Who grow up into cats, which take time, care and money to be properly cared for.

If you need to keep the mice down, many rescues have feral or semi-feral cats who need to be rehoused as farm or barn cats - there is no real need to breed even more cats for this. All rescues near me are full to the brim with unwanted kittens, it's impossible to get an adult cat into a rescue at the best of times (having had personal experience of this with a local adult stray last week). A couple of nights ago, not too far from me, someone dumped a box of 6 live kittens (tiny - approx 4-5 weeks old) out with the rubbish, the evening before bin emptying. Fortunately some kind soul found them & they are being fostered but there is no way that "there's always someone looking for a cute little kitten".
