NapoleonCat has brought another live bat in! Third one in ten days. I think this one must have been brought in last night and has roosted in the lounge until dusk. Scared the shit out of us all again. How the hell do I stop her? I hate the thought of locking her out all night, but the DC are home alone this weekend and DD,18, will freak of she brings one in and Dad isn't here to rescue her!

I agree that locking her out is mean, but there are lots of places she can go for shelter. She's often in, asleep on the sofa most evenings, at least until we go to bed. I was thinking that I could put the cat flap on out only. That way, if she goes out later she'll have to stay out, but she could stay in if she wanted to.

I just wish I knew where she was getting them from and how the hell she catches them!

Thing is, if you set the flap to out only, she won't understand why she can't get back in. Cats live in the moment, and have different thought processes to humans. She may need to get back in if frightened or injured.

Best thing is to set a curfew, before dusk, and reward her for coming in on time with her Favourite Thing - whether that be tasty treats (get her used to the rattling noise), supper, or her favourite interactive game.

Bats are most active at dusk/nightfall.

There may be some grumbling/whinging at first, but it's better for her to be kept in at night (when most RTAs, cat fights and fox attacks happen, dickheads that think it's 'OK' to be cruel to cats) so please don't lock her out.
