How does your cat keep itself cool in this heat?

His highness really does not know what to do with himself in this weather. Shady spots are still hot, so he's not happy; I've tried to keep a couple of rooms inside cool with curtains shut, but they're still quite hot, so he's not happy; he is terrified of the fan and while intruder black cat quite likes being sprayed with water (obviously part tiger), his highness gave me the most hurt look ever when I tried to see if that would help.

He's currently rolling around on the lawn, presumably trying to find a cool patch of grass after I had to show him yesterday the darker bits were less hot than the sunnier bits he's not terribly bright, bless. The pictures show some of the positions he's tried so far!

How are your cats cooling themselves off?

They are not! They are lying in the sunniest spots they can find and wondering why they are hot!

Sitting by a partially opened window. They're getting a nice breeze whilst sunning themselves.
I've also poured water on random patches of stone in the garden so that there are cool patches.

My cats sit right by the fire and come under the covers for snuggles so I think I may be doing too much. They like it hot!

He is miaowing at me very loudly because obviously it's all my fault

WattoCat likes to curl up in the bathroom sink. I suppose it's nice and cool!

Frozen water bottles wrapped in teatowels. They usually push them out the way and don't cuddle up with them, but they do then roll on the ground where the bottles were

One has still been outside for most of the day. The other has either been laying by the window or in the bath.

My 21 yr old girl likes to lie on the quarry tiled kitchen floor usually but this summer she is too tired to get off DDs bed - so now has a fan on her with a bowl of water infront of it.

It's the only fan in the house

Bibi goes for shady patches and uncarpeted floors. Zara (Abysinnian x) doesn't - she loves it. In the heat wave she was stretched out on a metal drain cover . Total desert creature.

Great ideas. I'll try frozen water bottles too (and make one for DH!).

It's just started to rain so he's sitting under the garden table with his tail sticking out.

The Burmese love the heat. Worst is we got back from holiday and I am not to be let out of sight. Meaning I have 2 hot great furry lumps on my lap every time I sit down.

We open all the windows - and they sit squarely in the path of the draught, in the middle of the floor, like a pair of little furry trip hazards.

This grumpy little fecker is lying in a shady patch of bushes in the garden, glaring at anyone who approaches.

One summer when it was very hot and our two cats were suffering, my DH wet a towel through with cold water and used it to give them 'big licks' - they loved it.

Mine lays on the patio paving slabs as that part of the garden faces north and is usually cool. He also likes the wooden floor in the living room as it is cooler than the carpet. I tried cooling him with a fan when it was very hot and he was panting, but he was frightened of it.

Yes ours and ddog all love being roasting hot to the point of trying to kill themselves...

@ cosie. Zara takes to the top shelf of the airing cabinet, directly above the hot water tank, in anything less than 25 degrees.

Little M's wandering about the house moaning, which surprises me because he's semi-hairless. I've tried wiping a wet flannel over him, but the silly boy just licks himself dry.

Although, to be fair, it's an oldish stone-built house and the inside temperature rarely goes above 20 degrees even in summer. He has the option of lying (luxuriating) on top of the duvet if it's too warm for him but he's usually underneath it and directly on top of the electric blanket - bar a few sheets etc.

That's why he's so pale for an elderly Siamese. I reckon he thinks that life is 75 degrees with carpet!

I expect the Oriental/Eastern/pointy types don't hold in body heat like the chunkier European types. They often have shorter fur too.

Mine had tried a range of new shelves and any cat-sized space in shade this week but now asleep behind the washing machine. I will try the wet towel thing when she ventures out, might help with the endless stream of hair too! I got a furninator but its a bit too draggy for her, maybe as she's a bit older (17 now)

Today is the first time I've noticed either of mine changing their behaviour due to the heat - both are lying by the French windows as I'm guessing it's a coo-lish place - well, as cool as anywhere gets in the town that regularly tops the temperature charts for the whole of the UK. Then again, they are lying snuggled up together!

I have got the fan on, but Girlcat gives it suspicious looks then belts past it as fast as she can, while Boycat will only travel behind the sofa while the fan is on. Clearly it's a special kind of torture device.

Random Have you ever found yours lying directly on a radiator? I worry Z will burn herself, and whilst admittedly not a feline genius, she must be smart enough to move before she gets burned I hope

Yes the girl mourned the removal of "her" radiator when we refurbished the house.

Ours are semi-long haired - goodness knows how they don't overheat!
