at least I think that is what it is called ! took smallest cat to the vets Sunday and she has cystitis , she was given an anti inflammatory injection and prescribed these capsules to be sprinkled on her food (can you guess what is coming next ?) well she will not eat the food, am going to try different food in the hope she goes for it but if not can we just sprinkle the powder straight down her throat ?(If I can manage that?)

Well you can but lord help you. Does she like cat milk? Not ideal but better than nothing.

Ours has cystease and I mix it in his food.

Mix them in lick e lix? Mine inhale anything mixed with that disgusting stuff!

It's certainly strong enough - and vile enough - to mask most things, I would have thought.

Never heard of lick e lix? But she did eat it all tonight, don't know if she just decided she preferred that food or if the fact old boy didn't come in until later helped.

Seniorboy demands his Lick E Lix treat each evening these days. (Quite unseemly behaviour.) It's truly vile stuff.

No idea about the powder but I do know that adding some warm water to my boys wet food and cutting down on dry food has helped him loads...he can't have ongoing meds for it because of his other medical probs and the warm water is definitely helping..

We had cystaid for our dcat when she had this - assuming it works the same way as the capsules you've been given (they sound almost identical) then the only important thing is that you get the powder inside the capsule into the cat somehow. You can put the whole capsule in their mouth if needed - the vets only suggest giving it with food as its usually easier.
I wouldn't recommend giving them the powder directly though as I don't think you'll have much luck - our dcat certainly hated it! But if it works for you, then go for it!

As others suggested lick-e-lix are pretty good. (Think frubes for cats). Another one that we found worked well was "easipill" - it's very similar to playdoh, and you just break a bit off and push the capsule inside. It smells awful but dcat loved it! In fact she used to sit waiting for her "treat". (Then savaged me as usual when I tried to get the loxicom into her).

What does she eat normally? If dry, I would introduce wet to make sure she is getting enough water.

The cats just have wet food, used to get really good quality dried but it caused upset stomachs so went back to wet. Will see how she goes tonight.
