Sad cat

Our 1 year old Russian Blue has been under the weather for a couple of days, off her food, walking slowly and just generally lethargic.

Could she just be a bit depressed? We've been away a lot over the past few weeks and different people have been feeding her. She seems a bit happier tonight sitting next to me! Do cats get low?

Yes cats are sensitive little things! My two sulk if I'm away for an evening or holiday etc. Even if I have someone staying here to watch the house, they just won't come back the entire time we are away

Cats do get lonely. Some cuddles and treats from Mum will make her feel better.

They do miss us when we're away. We always get loads of cuddles when we come home from holidays.

I dunno. Personally, I'd make a vets appointment because depression in cats can be a symptom of an underlying condition, even if it's just to set your mind at rest.

Russian Blues are sensitive little beings though.

Some cats behave exactly like that when it's really warm, what's the temperature been where you are for the past few days?

It's the general lethargy that makes me uneasy.

Sorry for not relying earlier (I'm the original OP and seem to be stuck with 2 different log ins on 2 different devices).

We put her in our room last night, but this morning we couldn't find her and after 2 hours of looking in our neighbours gardens for her (she's a Russian Blue so doesn't really go far), I'd started to wonder whether she was going to come back. The my lovely cleaner found her under a bed, shivering and cowering. We eventually coxed her out and she was awful, she could hardly lift up her tail and had a high lump near her tail base, she was also wailing when I lifted her. I then assumed that she'd broken her tail.

We eventually saw the vet at 2pm and she said that it was likely that she'd been attacked by something, the huge lump by her tail was an abcess and she had a deep gash on her tummy. They kept her in and operated and after collecting her at 6pm, I have a very clingy, collared, annoyed cat with a shaved bit on her belly and near her tail - BUT she seems fine.

All VERY upsetting.

Poor lass - but I'm glad she seems to have weathered the wound and the procedure.

Oh poor girl. Good you got her to the vet today. Am sure she'll feel better in a few days once her wounds have healed. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
I've only had moggies but a friend has a Russian Blue, beautiful cat but seems huge compared to our girl.

Thank you - she is very beautiful, but we only got her as I'm generally allergic to cats (but love them). Apparently Russian Blues don't produce one of the proteins in their saliva that people are often allergic to.

When we had her neutered the vet was very concerned that about the type of incision as it may make her less showable. She's just a pet and we have no intention of showing her, I'm just incredibly glad that she's managed to keep her tail and that's she's alive and well.

I'm so glad you got to the source of what was wrong with your girl. They're very gentle cats, aren't they?

Poor girl, it's a shame cats can't tell us what's wrong. Have you got antibiotics for her too?

Cats don't show pain easily and lethargy/not eating are serious symptoms once they show. I can't imagine a cat going off their food just because they miss somebody and think it's probably a bit risky to attribute human emotions to them when there could be a serious underlying problem.

Vets would be my advice.
