Bald patch

Our cat has developed a bald patch on the back of her neck. It doesn't seem to be sore. The vet said it's likely that her fur is getting worn away by the cat flap but there doesn't appear to be any bits sticking out on it. I am now wary of putting on her monthly flea treatment in case it gets worse. She seems fine apart from this. Any suggestions?

Has your cat been vaccinated/had an antibiotic injection recently? My cat was vaccinated and at home saw black fluff on the floor. Firstly I thought "what have you been up to" then I noticed a 50p sized bald patch at the injection site. I mentioned it to the vet the next time he went there.

Thanks Troys. No she hasn't had recent injections, only one for a paw injury, and the bald patch happened before that. Did the fur grow back on your cat?

Yes it did but he always hated flea drops on his neck as well. As soon as he heard the foil being opened and the top of the pipette being snapped off he would run to the door. Unfortunately for him it allowed him to be trapped so I got him every time.

My mums cat has this, and it's a flea allergy.

No, poor thing has been threadbare for years. They have to take flea treating really seriously otherwise he gets quite poorly but he's always got a bare spot.

This happened to my cat, however in her case it was a reaction to flea treatment rather than the fleas. (She also came up with a burn underneath the bald spot, though).
We've since changed her back to her original stuff and she's fine - her fur grew back pretty quickly once the skin had healed. (Though it took an assortment of collars and pet shirts to get her to leave it alone!)

In our case we'd recently changed flea treatment.
It could also be general irritation or the cat pulling out her fur? (Perhaps keep an eye to see if she seems to be bothering it).
