My cats poo really stinks, he eats Whiskas wet pouches and Whiskas biscuits. Is there something better I could feed him that will reduce the smell? Thanks!

Whiskas is really no good for a cat at all. Most of the supermarket brands contain only 4% meat. Some of the much better, accessible brands are

James Well Beloved pouches
Butchers classic
Nature's menu

And for dry food Applaws is very good - 80% meat I think. I also order mine from Zooplus which sell some really good wet foods. My kitten likes Animonda Von Feinstein.

The key is to always look at the meat content. The higher the better. The better the quality their food is, the fewer poos they do and the smell is a lot less.

Natures Menu country hunter is really good as its raw food and very high meat content.

Lottie - supermarket brands have more than 4% meat, the 4% refers to the named meat so if 'chicken flavour' it's got to have 4% chicken. Rest will be random bits!

Zooplus has some higher quality foods, also happy kitty company. Butchers is good as a supermarket brand. Should help the smell!

Can I just feed them dry complete food or do they need wet as well? Is it the wet food that creates the smelly poo?
I fed my other cat Whiskas for 20years, she didn't seem bothered by the lack of meat!

Harry has Natures Menu and also their Country Hunter pouches and James Wellbeloved dry. I tried him on James Wellbeloved wet and he loved it but it didn't seem fill him up, unlike Natures Menu. His poo does seem slightly smellier than when he only had dry but I do prefer him having a wet pouch each day.

I tried him on NM raw food (sold frozen, the pouches aren't raw) but he turned up his nose! He actually prefers the standard NM which is handy as it's cheaper.

Our boy is on Animonda Carny tins. We looked into it and decided it was good balance of affordable and decent quality. He also has 24/7 access to Tesco complete dry, its rubbish but he likes it and it's cheap for him to nibble.

Best to give cats wet food primarily, they don't drink much and need the moisture in wet food for their kidneys

Also I agree with what other posters are saying re: other brands of cat food, our cat likes animonda. He did have smelly poos and the vet recommended a probiotic, it sorted things out but took a few months.

Mine have Felix AGAIL & Royal Canin neutered female biscuits.
(Agree with Jonsnowsghost about the 4% meat thing. There's as much protein in Felix as in most of the much more expensive specialist foods.)
Anyway poos don't generally smell at all (I use cats best litter)

My two eat exactly the same thing as each other (Felix wet, Royal Canin indoor and anti-hairball drys). Her poos stink, his have no smell at all. I use a wood pellet litter and they both bury well, so within a minute of her using the tray I can't smell them.

If I wasn't using a good quality complete dry food I wouldn't use the Felix, I'd replace that with a higher quality wet - you need to get the balance between cheap food and quality food. My DBro feeds his almost exclusively dry and they are very healthy but despite mine drinking very well they have a tendency to dry-ish poo if I don't give them a pouch each a day of the wet and they get the nutrition from the dry (plus they love the Felix!).

I work for a pet food company and obviously people can feed what ever they like but the cheaper 'supermarket brands' are still nutrionally complete so are fine to feed. I'd also recommend feeding wet as well as dry
Unfortunately some cats poo just stinks! Mine eats felix AGAIL and James Wellbeloved dry and sometimes his stink and sometimes not

It's a good idea if they can have wet as well as dry food because cats get dehydrated easily. But one of my cats is really fussy and much prefers dry food. There are very few wet foods she'll touch. I would avoid go cat dry - there are threads on here about how that causes long term health problems.

Lots of people do feed whiskas but personally I dont think that means it's any good for them and I think if you feed as closest to nature as you can you potentially avoid vets bills. Cats are carnivores - they need lots of meat and fish.

When I was at home our cats thrived on Whiskas but I decided not to feed it to Harry as it listed meat derivatives on the ingredients and I wanted to give him something better quality. He would only eat dry food for years (James Wellbeloved) but when he broke his jaw we switced him to Wainwrights and then to Natures Menu.

BorpCat2 had really, really stinky (and sometimes runny) poo, and lots of gas, when we got him, and switching from dry food to grain-free wet food (Butcher's Classic) really helped.

Seniorboy regards fish flavoured food as an invention of the devil. He's now, after years on AGAIL, solidly using Nature's Menu. (The meaty flavours.)

Harry's favourite JW flavour is fish - it stinks! He likes it though so that's the main thing. Surprisingly his favourite NM pouch is beef. He wouldn't eat it first time I gave it to him but now he barely comes up for air!
