We appear to have been adopted?

We don't own a cat. We get loads of cats coming in our garden. Usually as we open the back door they run away.

However this latest visitor has never run & has been visiting more & more often.

She's at our door in the morning. She visits in the evening & if we're ever in during the day she pops up then.

So she wears a collar but for a cat who loves people so much why doesn't she go home?

You haven't been adopted. You are just part of her territory. Enjoy the visit but if you want a cat then get your own.

Wolfie, I don't think there is any need for a patronising face. OP isn't stealing a cat, she's just wondering why the cat is coming to them. I think you were a little snarky there. It's a reasonable question or assumption for OP to enquiry about.

Some super friendly cats just love attention and will stalk you if you give them an ounce of it! Do you pet her or talk to her? Some cats try the sweet innocent I'm hungry and no one loves me act to get extra treats! It's not that they aren't loved or fed at home they are just manipulative feckers..

No, she's not getting titbits but she is getting attention. Lots of tickles & strokes.

I always assumed cats were a bit more standoffish & she'd only want to stay if getting food.

I have a couple that visit. There seems to be a group of cats that hang out together and visit the neighbour at the top of the street (who does feed them).

One of the visitors was from next door - they have 5 cats so I think she liked to get away from the others, she doesn't visit now I have my own cat.

Why only stay at home when you can have 5 or more other houses where the hoomans are gullible and fall for the ' I'm starving' trick.

Does it look cared for, not skinny,nice coat? I know you said it had a collar.

See this cat? He is fed constantly , loved and stroked constantly had from a kitten and the fat bastard still goes so repetitively to neighbours that one took him to the vet concerned he was a stray ( he's chipped so vet phones us) and another put a collar on hi with a note saying is this your cat please call us ' because he kept going in and asking for food / general fuss.
He must be Houdini because he gets every collar off we try! Are you my neighbour op?

Next door have two lovely cats who have their 'owners' well trained. They are well fed much loved cats. That doesn't stop them spending hours in our garden or sneaking in through the door or window if my back is turned. Pengirl objects but they take no notice. Cats follow their own rules.

Thanks all, these are very encouraging comments. I'm going to continue to fuss this beautiful creature but I'll be sure not to feed her.

She's slim but not under weight. Nice coat but she had some burrs stuck to her last week, we live near allotments.

Collar is good condition. I think she just wants company.

She's being rewarded by visiting with cuddles. My was because the OP said they had been adopted which implies the cats was now there's. Lots of people do actually take in and feed cats that already have homes.
We have a ginger cat. Well we don't actually. He's not ours but he visits for a cuddle. When we lost our old girl he would come every day. We also have a frog catcher black and white who comes over not evenings. Oh and then there's the two cats we do actually own! They're the only ones allowed in the house and that we feed.

That's fine wolfie yes adopted might be a step too far. She's a frequent visitor.

You haven't been adopted - this is most likely a well-cared for cat who likes humans and hangs around any it can find during the day when its owners are out.

I know one very sociable cat who loves company and will even follow the humans from room to room to make sure it doesn't miss out on anything.
