broadline flea treatment anyone?

Has anyone tried broadline flea treatment before? My one year old cat has fleas and my vet recommended this.

I'm also trying RIP Fleas spray for the house which has a lot of good reviews on Amazon. Has anyone tried that before.

We are washing anything and everything that fits in the washing machine and hoovering regularly too but does anyone else have any tips? I can't stop itching!
It doesn't help that we are renovating at the moment so the house is a bomb site anyway!!

I've never tried it because one of the active ingredients is the same as frontline and front lines not working these days.

We use advocate on ours.

We use Stronghold which works and our vets only recommend that or Advocate as the fleas have built up resistance to the others.
Not sure on spray for house tho...

It has much higher level of Fipronil than frontline and there are other ingredients in there too. It is much more effective than frontline because of this currently (till the end of this week) it is the only flea and tick prescription product on the market. Whilst it is effective I have run my stocks right down ready for the launch of Bravecto.

Broadline is a dual flea / worming treatment? I use it on my cat and have never had any problems.

Advocate is very good.

Our Vet recommended Broadline as it deals with tapeworms as well as fleas and worms, where apparently others don't.

We've always used Advocate, and personally prefer that - purely for application purposes. Broadline is a syringe with quite a large quantity of liquid and left cats fur greasy for several days, plus they manage to lick it much more easily. However Vet advised that if cats are hunters then they will need Advocate plus a wormer if not on Broadline.

I also wasn't sure whether to mention, but the main reason we don't use Broadline is that one of our cats had a reaction to it - her fur fell out in a circular area the size of a 50p, and she had what appeared to be a chemical burn underneath.
We treated our 4 other cats and they were fine, plus I got a large quantity in my eye (long story) with no ill effects.
However when googling I've found a couple of others who have said the same.

It does appear to be a very small percentage of cats who have had this, and I've not heard of any more serious (eg neurological) side effects.

Male of it what you will.

We've been really impressed with Seresto collars which repel fleas and ticks and last for eight months or so. Would be very interested to know more about the new thing that Lone mentioned, though.

For worms, I use Profender Spot On for my pill refusing cat. The other more chilled cat is happy to take a pill (Drontal).

For fleas, I use Advantage, ensuring I leave several days between flea and worm treatments, to ensure I don't load them up with too many chemicals in one go.

I don't like flea collars, especially if not the quick snap-off type. They're good for popping in the vacuum bag though.

Stay well away from anything under the "Bob Martin" range.

See it's interesting you say about Bob Martin's range because that's what I used on my cat last month and now he has fleas. To my knowledge he's never had them before using that.

I've used the broadline and so far so good, he hasn't had a reaction to it.
Now I just need to work on making sure the house is flea free.

My puddy has broad line and no issues so far. Found fleas on him two years ago and treated him with that after a visit to the vet and the house with indorex. Never saw another flea. He hates spot on treatments anyway so I can't gauge whether he gets on with it well or not! But he's happy and healthy so I have no problems.

I don't think anything sold over the counter works. If it does it's not allowed to be sold over the counter or something like that.

We use advocate. Have to because the exs house is infested with fleas and the teen gets a couple of travellers to bring home.

Itchyyy, Bob Martin's flea products (and god knows what else they sell) can also make your animal extremely unwell, as well as being crap at preventing fleas.

Indorex (can buy off Amazon for half the price vets charge) is good for spraying round the house to get rid of the leaping itchy buggers.

I think the Broadline is fine with the majority of cats, just a few who will react. (Like many medications, I suppose).
We used it twice on our other cats with no ill effects (even after licking) whereas Kizzy reacted the first time we used it on her - she always has been an awkward beastie though.

I second what others have said re Bob Martin - there are a lot of pets who have become really ill after using it.

We also found a huge difference between over-the-counter and prescription treatments. In our case we seemed to be forever using treatments, bombs etc with only temporary luck,.but Advocate has been great for us.

My old tomcat has had a nasty reaction to Broadline. I applied over 2 weeks ago and it's getting worse as time goes on. His skin has gone red and scabby now and is spreading. I've been putting cold compress on which relaxed him but obviously not enough. Not a happy bunny having to yet again go to vet for more meds. He didn't have fleas, maybe that's why the reaction? My other cat was jumping around and scratching for days after it and I got bitten several times. I used to use Spot on on my previous cats and it worked very well. Will probably go back to that, when necessary.

Im glad you did mention the reaction one of your cats had to Broadline because my cat too has had the loss of fur two days following application I noticed her trying to lick the area alot and I started also noticing small clumps of fur. When I tried to examine the area she was clearly sensitive. And she has been weesing at night, and definitely not herself. Interestingly I could not find anything on the labelling or internet that mentions these two side effects. So thank you for your honesty.

My two have been fine on Broadline and I’d be too worried to change it.

Mine has Bravecto Plus so he only needs it every 3 months and Profender for worms every 6-12 months (he's low risk for worms). I'm happy with this as it means upsetting him less often!
