How do you clean the litter tray?

Just interested to see how yours is done.

I:-

Empty it all into a black bin back and scrape out any clumps sticking to the bottom

Put a squidge of bleach into the pan and pour in freshly boiled kettle water.

Let it soak for a moment and then rinse out with more kettle water.

Dry it all off with a towel which then goes straight into the washing machine.

Pop in new litter, add the hood and voila, done.

Pretty much the same. Doubled up Ocado bags for the litter (perfect size) and a pet spray not bleach. This has reminded me it is what I'm meant to be doing right now though. 😳

I only use a black bin bag as I empty the nappy bin that is kept outside straight into the bag aswell. Keeps all the nasty waste together

From your cat's point of view everytime you use bleach you make it smell like someone else's tray. I pick out poos daily, refresh litter every 3-4 days and only scrub with non-ammonia contain disinfectant every two weeks.

The bleach does get fully rinsed out so I can't see it being an issue. And she certainly doesn't have a problem. She hops straight in it as soon as I was done like cats do

I clean every day and put in half a newspaper and a scoop of litter, and change it everyday, have two of these trays. Just found that scooping out litter smells even with catsan. So prefer fresh everyday with wood pellets, which they seem to like.

I just tip it in the bin bag just before I take it out. I've never cleaned it with any detergent or anything.

We use cats best oko plus so change it about once a month. It's fab stuff. Really don't notice any smell

Once a month? No wonder I'm bloody skint! Latest cat only uses Oko Plus, and I've been totally emptying, washing & refilling every week, with poo fishes in between. It gets everywhere too - I have to hoover daily, or the carpet just looks like a gravel pit!

To answer your actual question, I scrape everything into a black bin liner, then into the bin liner goes all other household rubbish. The litter tray then goes into the bath, I add a squirt of anti-bac washing up liquid (bleach feels too strong for my preferences, and the stuff you get for litter tray cleaning smells rank and flowery), give it a good scrub, rinse thoroughly, and dry with whatever's due for a 60 degree wash next.

Did you know that Oko Plus is flushable? So technically you could put your poo fishing finds down the loo? I've yet to hear of any complaints from water companies about cat litter clogging up the drains, but I've not tried dissolving the stuff in potable water myself. Might have a crack now, and let you know the results - could reduce a bit of landfill waste!

Aah, I work for a water company, and have been programmed from a very young age (sewage is in our family lol) not to put anything down the bog than traditional paper, pees, and poos. However, my little scientific experiment could be useful to our education team at work...

We follow the same sort of pattern as the op, except we use kitchen towel rather than a towel, and hutch cleaner instead of bleach. (Smells bleachy but is supposedly safe for pets).
I'm wondering how often people do theirs though? We clean properly once every 1-3 days, and do a quick hose rinse and sweep once a day.
We also need to empty our 2-4 times a day (5 cats) so only rinse & sweep once, and just scrape and refill the other times.

Not sure if that's minging or not but I can't be arsed to do a deep clean multiple times a day.

I take the used ones out, shake litter into a bag, poo is bagged, tiny splish of detergent of somesort and fill with water from garden hose. Ideally they will all be different sizes and stack nicely in the biggest one.

Used litter bag also doubles as collection point for dog poo bags, whole lot is double bagged and binned

Take filled ones from washhouse shed and replace removed ones

Leave trays to soak for a bit, tip water down drain, and stand on edge in wash house shed to dry. Refill as soon as dry.

we have loads of trays, so some in use, some drying some filled and waiting.

Similar , but at least once a week , & I soak Milton with the boiling water - gets rid of any nasty odours really well . Dry with kitchen paper .

I do nearly the same. I don't dry it with a towel though, I use a piece of kitchen towel. I clean it about every 4 days. We can smell as soon as he cat does a poo so I lift those out immediately using a small bag.

i empty it into two shopping bags, rinse it out under the outside tap, give it a once around with a baby wipe, dry with a paper towel and refill.

I replace the tray once a year.

Rarely, because he only uses it in dire night time emergencies (locked in at night) and those are mostly wees. Otherwise he goes outside.

Only really have to change litter about once a month, so I splash out on the Catsan smart packs which come in their own lined bin bag (I still double bag anyway). Would be an expensive way of doing it if the litter tray was used more often though. Give the tray a quick rinse and wipe before putting new litter in. It never needs more than that.

Mine gets done once a month. I use bicarbonate soda and vinegar to make a paste, scrub that round the tray and leave it for a couple of minutes, then rinse with very hot water.

I buy the small bin bags for waste paper baskets etc. Tip the whole contents of the tray into the bag, bit of a scrape if needed, bin the lot and replace the litter in the empty tray. I do this twice a day because we have two cats and they insist on using the same tray!

Every couple of days I give it a spray with mild detergent (not bleach as I don't like the smell myself) and wipe with kitchen towel. I very occasionally wash the whole tray.

We use wooden pellets and they are the best for absorbing smells but track really badly.

I empty it all out into a bin bag, clean the stuck-on bits (there are always lots) with purple litter tray cleaning spray stuff and kitchen roll, spray it all again and leave for 15 mins to clean viruses, then wipe it down and dry again with more kitchen roll. This happens once every 3-4 weeks.

Clumps and solids get removed every day and binned. Tray is in an alcove under the stairs, littler kicked out behind the tray gets hoovered every few weeks, not at the same time as cleaning the tray. Litter kicked out the front gets kicked back in the general direction of the tray swept and tipped back into the tray. I use clay-type clumping litter and it doesn't smell much as long you scoop regularly.
