Kitten poo behind tv

We have a 4 month old kitten, who was using litter but is now going outside so we removed the litter tray which our vet would be fine. She's now gone to the toilet behind our tv, I'm hoping this is a one off, any advice to make sure she keeps going to the toilet outside?

Have you considered that she might not want to - or want to all the time and yet? 4 months is young to be going outside and maybe she's feeling insecure and would rather toilet inside sometimes eg if there's another (bigger) cat around. Even some grown cats feel better about toileting inside - and then going outside to hunt/hang out/get the craic.

I'd put the litter tray back for at least a bit and let her make up her mind when she's a bit older.

By the way - has she been neutered, chipped and had all her shots yet?

Keep the litter tray for a lot longer unless you want more little 'presents'! I'm amazed at your vet's advice.

PS - does she have a nighttime curfew?

When do you think an appropriate time to start would be? Maybe another month with the tray as an option? We removed it as she appeared to not be using it.

She's have everything 'done' - neutered, shots and chipped!

I've never taken up my cat's tray, it's been in the bathroom since we've had him. He usually uses the garden but, as he's kept in from 6.30pm to 7.30am it's not fair to not have a tray. It doesn't always get used but at least it's there.

Although my cats went outside to go to the toilet there was always a tray indoors "for emergency use only".

I had one cat who, when he wanted to go outside and I was ignoring him, would start paddling about in the tray. That would immediately get my attention and I would let him out. He never wanted to go to the toilet but knew how to get what he wanted.
