MCat bullying Little Monsieur :(

Little Monsieur has just crept under, then out of the tallboy chest. MCat (who is bigger and senior) seems to have increasingly taken to bullying Little M since DH's death.

At first, MCat seemed to "mother" (grooming) Little M. Now he just seems angry with him all the time, trying to bite him on the bum, yet wanting my attention all of the time. But when he sits on my lap, he gets angry and bitey if I dare move a muscle.

*PS, they've always had a bit of rough and tumble. This seems different though. Perhaps it's because the dynamics have changed, and they don't have a person each?

Similar thing happened with my DBro's cats. They were down to one very elderly girl when they got 2 more kittens, litter brother & sister. Everything was harmonious until soon after the old cat finally died a couple of years later. Then the tom started to bully his sister, in the end getting so bad they had to be completely separated (indoor only cats). Whatever DBro & his wife tried they never got them re-socialised to each other and in the end had to re-home the boy cat.

It clearly wasn't that the old cat had kept the others in order, as she was the smallest of them, definitely getting a bit frail towards the end, and almost completely blind too - it was just that the dynamics had changed.

How firm are you with MCat, Mantra?

I think you need to remember that with the loss of your DH your DCats lives have changed and they will also be sensitive to your grief to. Feliway and Zylkene are both good ideas, but time is something you all need .
Just like children cats lash out when they can't express their emotions properly.

I've tried the time out in another room, Cozie, back when DH was alive. He didn't really seem to give a shit, because when I opened the door, he was cheerfully humping a pair of DH's discarded trousers. How else can I be firm with him? Tone of voice?

I'll send off for a feliway re-fill Lone. Little Monsieur doesn't have a violent bone in his body, he's such a happy little soul. MCat's always been a bit dark and brooding. A right old Heathcliff.
