Anyone got one and, if so, are they good?

My cat isn't good at drinking water and I thought it may encourage her.

I bought one for Harry. He wouldn't go in the kitchen when it was on so it was given to one of my friends.

Another waste of money!

Try a glass of water. See a previous thread about cats drinking their humans water!

Have you put the water in a different place from the food? That usually helps.

Don't bother honestly, you still have to change the water regular and it still goes slimy despite the filters. Then you have to scrub the slime off inside it. Much easier to give a bowl.

I place glasses of water around the house - works well!

And it takes 750 mls of water to fill it.

Or 1250 rather.

I got one for Crap Cat. He loves it! I got large dog size because it was all that was in stock. He drinks from it all through the day and sometimes just gazes at it lovingly. He gets really upset if i ever turn it off for a few mins.

The only faff is cleaning it. It does get a bit slimy and yuck quite quickly. I clean it thoroughly once a week, and rinse it once too.

It has stopped him leaping into the sink any time we run the tap, and he drinks lots more because of it.

I bought one thinking our cat would love it as he's always trying to drink from dripping taps etc. He wouldn't go within 6ft of it. Gave up after a few weeks of it being ignored and it was a faff to clean.It's packed up in the futility room.

It might be worth trying little ramekins (10cm diameter) all around the house.

I tried one when I had dogs as one would only drink very fresh water...what a waste of time

It takes forever to put together in the first place, then the filters go slimy so you have to wrestle it open to clean it and it's so noisy! Forget it

I've got a Cat Mate one and Starcat adores it. It's so quiet that my mother thought it was broken, it's in the bedroom but it doesn't bother me. Starcat will drink from it frequently and gets upset if he has to make do with a bowl instead.

Cats can taste water so they like it filtered. They're also naturally more likely to drink from flowing water rather than a bowl. Placement is really important, as cats wouldn't eat and drink in the same place, so make sure you put the water well away from her food.

I have just arranged pickup of one off FB selling (a fiver so don't feel bad if it's crap) however given billycat's prediction for flowerpot and puddle water the sliminess may be a bonus!

If you want to know if your cat will like it before buying one, try emptying your current bowl, fill a jug with water and slowly pour it into bowl when cat is there and see if it's interested. I did this with my two and they both loved it, every time they saw the water jug they went crazy running under my feet and to their bowl. Bought a water fountain for them, and it's great, I clean it and out fresh water in once a week which I think is better then sorting water bowls every day. Keep it away from where the cat sleeps and also the food bowl- keeps it fresher for longer

Also, if you do get one, make sure it's once you can easily get new filters for, some of the cheaper ones I found on eBay etc I couldn't find new filters for.....
