3 weeks - let kittens out?

I've had my 2 10 month old kittens for 3 weeks now and I'm debating whether to let them outside for the first time. The shelter said 3 weeks but I'm still nervous! What would you do?

I'd Let them out on a Saturday morning before they've eaten and hover nervously while pretending not to monitor them.
