Cats no longer purr ...

I know this is perhaps a silly thing to ask about, but my two cats used to purr like a couple of beehives when they were tiny ... I mean it was really LOUD ... and now, at 10 months, they've almost completely stopped

There's nothing wrong with them AFAIK and they're perfectly happy (maybe even too happy, now they've got me fully trained? ) but I really miss that beautiful sound now

Has anyone else known this to happen I wonder?

I didn't know The Lodger as a little kitten but he doesn't purr as an adult - and Seniorboy purrs only in bed, sometimes, when we're having a real close cuddle.

Maybe they've grown out of it ?

My girl cat used to purr so loud when she was a kitten but now she rarely purrs and when she does I can't hear it, only feel it.

Big cat purrs really quietly but Simba the ginger lion (yes it's me) purrs really loudly, especially when he's getting licked by big cat.

Feral cats don't purr as adults, and domestic cats only purr in response to humans either to pleasure or to calm themselves.

It's something to do with them purring to be fed by mummy cat.

Charlie had one of the biggest purrs of all, you could hear him down the phone, but he was also quite vocal.
