Introducing a new cat to the house

Hi, I'm after tips on the best way to introduce a new cat to existing cat.....

We have a 2.5 year old rescue cat, had her since last summer. She's very affectionate and vocal, loves to wander, very territorial over the garden if other cats approach. She hadn't been treated well previously but settled in very quickly

We would love to take on another rescue but want to make it as easy as possible for current cat. Would a boy/girl be better? Old/young?

We're not in the UK and so many people leave in the summer and dump their cats, it's heartbreaking and I'd love to give one a home if I can make it work!

Thanks

I think she'd accept a male kitten best as a companion. Cats are a matriarchal society, so she would likely see a female as competition.

Boy cats (IME) seem a lot more easygoing - as long as they're neutered before they start to become interested in females, around 4 - 5 months.
