Why is my neutered cat shagging the new cat?

We have a not quite 1yr old neutered boy. We just got a 6yr old ex-breeding girl. She is very new so once she's settled in we will neuter her. Should we sod the settling in period and get her neutered straight away? Obviously I'm not worried about a litter as my boy is neutered and they are indoor cats, I'm just thinking it might help this behaviour. That said, she doesn't seem to mind, she sticks her behind in the air for him to mount her! Why are they doing this? Is it ok? Do I need to neuter ASAP? Thanks.

Sometimes they retain some 'inclinations' if they're reminded and if she's in heat? That would surely be a reminder.

I'd get her neutered directly. (The former breeder should really have done that themselves in my view.) And keep all your doors and windows tight closed in the meantime.

Thanks, I'll call the vet on Monday. He's chasing her round now and biting her neck, back or bum. I've separated them for now.

They still remember the mechanics after neutering and if she's giving signals he will mount.

She should throw him off when she realises nothing's happening.

You don't want a female in heat calling. It goes on all night for days.

And forget about them being 'indoor cats' and him being neutered. You probably have the local Romeo lurking in the shrubbery right now so if you were to leave a door or window open a crack.........

I think you're wise to call the vet on Monday. In fact, I'd make it first thing.

Once cats get into the habit of humping, they don't stop, IME. Both of my boys get jiggy with fluffy inanimate objects, the "shag bag" being favourite. You'd think they'd get jealous , but they don't mind taking turns.

So even once she's spayed, he might still get amorous, but she'll probably not be so receptive and box his ears.

Oh dear! They've calmed down today but I've already booked her in for tomorrow. I hope that's the right thing to do - tbh I'd rather they were shagging all night than fighting!

I've just given her a wash. She is not a bath fan, haha and she smelt like it. But I thought she could do with a clean before the op. No chance of a bath, but we managed a wash using a soaked towel to wet and rinse, she tolerated that ok, even purred during the shampoo and the rub dry, success!

It went fine, no more shagging so far! My boy cat was very gentle with her when we brought her back. She hasn't eaten anything though and is now hiding under the bed where we can't see her. Is she ok?!

My neutered Tom likes to 'shag ' next doors neutered Tom , (usually on our front drive). They are friends though, and they've been doing it for years.... (we do try and explain that really, that if they must, they could at least do it in the back garden instead .. But they just dont have any shame it seems.. !!)

I'm glad her op went well, and she's recovering.

What type of breed is she? I have a breed (Devon Rex), and because they are a bit sparse in the hair department, (insides of legs, armpits, legpits, neck), they can get a tad greasy and sort of cheesy "mousey" smelling, because there's not much fur to absorb the oils.

Some breeders recommend bathing, but mine's a clean little lad and all he needs is a wipe over with an h20 baby wipe, and an anti-fungal wipe in his flappy ears.

She's a short hair but has lots of it! Enough to share with all my clothes, haha. She smells much nicer now after a little shampoo, but hopefully I won't have to do it that often!

it's most likely a dominance thing, as she's new he'll be making sure your new addition knows who's boss. he may just be a randy little devil though

There has been no more shagging! The morning after spaying, when she came out of hiding, he sniffed her very gently over her face and wound - looked almost like kisses, he was sooooo gentle. They are the cutest cats they should have had babies together.
