combined flea and wormer?

When we got our big lad from the rescue they told us he'd had a combined flea and worming treatment which would last 3 months. We're coming up to that now so thinking about best option - does anyone know what this would be and is it vet-only? What kind of price is it and is it worth it? Our previous cats got worming tablets and flea collars and were fine (I think we were lucky, having heard how rubbish collars are) so never needed prescriptions but I don't fancy my chances tabletting BiteyCat - he's calmed down tremendously in the last few weeks but I think getting a pill down him would be pushing my luck. So a spot on 3 month treatment sounds great.

I've just ordered Broadline combined flea / wormer from www.mrpets.co.uk/. It comes up as prescription only, and you have to enter details about your cat, including your vets surgery & phone number. Now I've never ordered from here before, but it looks like my order has gone through OK....

I used to persevere with the tablets but it was a battle of attrition - however much I tried to clamp their mouths shut and stroke their throats to encourage swallowing, they would defiantly spit out the tablet when i released them. That was on the rare occasions that I was actually able to force the tablets into their mouths....it was carnage! The spot on treatment is much better, and seems to work OK (well, we've definitely no fleas and I've not seen evidence of worms...(boak)).

I've just paid £32.50 for 6 treatments, and I reapply every couple of months.

I use broad line for my indoor cats. It's once a month but because they are indoor I tend to only treat them every 2-3 months. In between that I do a worm count instead

How does ordering online if prescription only work? Do you have to ask your vet for a prescription to submit (presumably additional cost)? I would feel funny about asking rather than buying direct but if it's considerably cheaper I will have to get over that!

On the mrpets website you have to put in your cat's age, breed and weight, and give your vet's name and phone number. I think this counts as your prescription - the site certainly processed my order and I've got a confirmation email from them that doesn't say they need any further details from my vet.

I'll let you know in a couple of days if it arrives OK! It's certainly much cheaper ordering online - I think I paid the same for 4 doses from my vet when I first went onto the combined drops.

I did find another site that wanted you to email through a vets prescription for the same thing

Watching with interest about the Broadline delivery. Sounds good.

Legally to obtain Broadline from an Internet pharmacy you need to supply ( should be by post, but they will allow fax) a written sign prescription from your vet, which they are entitled to charge for. Any where that processes an order without a prescription should be viewed with great suspicion.
Veterinary practices do not deal direct with the internet pharmacies for prescriptions.

Point taken, Lonecat. I've been in touch with my vet and they sell Broadline so I'm just going to get it direct - it's thirty quid for three pipettes, which seems ok to me.

What's your professional view of Broadlibe, Lone? Up to now we've been using Frontline monthly (i know lots of people complain the fleas have developed ommunity, but Archcat's never had a problem) and Profender three-monthly, but our vet mentioned Broadline last time I picked up supplies. Does it have a good rep?

I am happy with Broadline and use it on my own cats as they eat vermin and get ticks.

Can you use Broadline monthly? Is it ok to do that with a wormer?
I have just got a rescue cat & Cats Protection had used Broadline on her.

The instructions say to use it monthly (just collected it from vet).
