What's wrong with my cat?

Six month old seal point Birman, girl.

Sooo friendly, loves cuddles, happy to come and go from the house. We don't have a cat flap so it mieows next the door and we let it in/out.

About a week ago it started staying out more and more. Two nights ago I called her and she came to the door but wouldn't come in, ran off when I went to pick her up.

I left the window open for her and in the morning she was sat outside, came in, ate and left again.

All day she was gone and then the same last night.

She was just mieowing at the door so I opened it but she wouldn't come in. Managed to tempt her with some ham. She's now sat at the door mieowing to go back out but won't let us near her, just runs off if I try to pick her up.

I'm sat outside having a cigarette and there is another cat outside meowing to her. This is a feral cat (we live in a farm) that's been here for years. That cat doesn't belong to anybody but everyone on the farm feeds it. You can't get near it but the farmer told me it has been spayed and realised by cat rescue people.

Any ideas?

No not spayed. I bought her from a family member who shows/breeds them. I promised him she could have one litter for him as he hadn't had a seal girl for years and wanted to keep her.

I did ask him if she could be in season but we didn't think so yet. She's not calling (from what I've seen of his cats calling it's a different noise?). I think the other cat is a girl too. Could they just be palling around together maybe?

Sounds like she is coming into season, you should get her speyed.

WHY are you letting her out if she's not neutered? You're want her impregnated by any cat who could have travelled a mile to get to her, who then gets lost/knocked over and puts her at the risk of STDs?

Get her neutered and keep her in until it's done man!

Yes it sounds like 'wandering' behaviour, she is probably scoping the area for toms and IS possible already pregnant, if she wasn't spayed she should not have been allowed out imo.

She isn't spayed as I told the breeder he could have one litter from her. If she's coming into season he will take her to the stud and I'll have to keep her in until it's done.

My own Oneago's litter brother - a chocolate point - sired a litter at 5 months old. I would, all other things being OK, have a Siamese neutered at bang on the four months recommended timing.

She's got a boyfriend out there almost certainly - in fact she's probably already pregnant. I'd phone that family member immediately and advise them about her spaying. A litter at that age isn't great news if you can help it.

They don't have to go into season, the pain of mating sparks ovulation.

There will be other feral cats around who aren't neutered.

Fluffy cat was trying to mount his sister at 4 months. She wasn't fighting him off.

Cats are like humans, the males are only after one thing.

She doesn't need a litter at this age. Please keep her in and speak to your vet rather than the breeder.

I'll make an appt at the vet next week. This may be a ridiculous question but can you get a cat abortion? Off to google now

I think you would have to take her to a vet, they may be able to tell you if she is already pregnant. They may suggest spaying and abortion at the same time, she is still a baby and the world does not need any more unplanned kittens

She was let out as I thought she was too young to get pregnant. Breeder said they don't usually come into season before 8 months, she's only just 6 months.

I thought I would notice she was in season and keep her in.

If you're in the UK, the spaying operation is such that it will do both.

Not sure what to say to family member. When we went to see the kittens I fell in love with her but he was planning on keeping her as he hadn't had a seal girl for years. He said I could have her as I was family if I was happy for him to have one litter from her bred with one of the studs they use.

He knows she has been outside, he came around to see her and check her markings last week.

TBH, he's not the best if he doesn't know cats ovulate after mating.

Can you imagine if our ovulation depended on the male orgasm?.

YY to exciting cat stuff, especially if she has another cat pal to hang out with. As long as she's been spayed. First Spring is an exciting time for cats.

All cats are different, for example MCat likes to go over the wall and off for a bit of a roam strut his handsome stuff , whereas Little Monsieur will jump onto the wall, but will just sit there, eyeing the back gardens. I'm quite glad he doesn't leave the courtyard, because he is an unusual breed, very trusting, and would go off with anyone.

Maybe get her a cat tracking device, mine have Loca8tors, but you can get real time GPS trackers now. Put it on a quick release snap off collar though - those elasticated ones can cause horrific injuries, I think they should be banned.
