Best cat litter

We are getting a kitten in a couple of weeks and just wondered what cat litter people use.

I have had cats before and always used the crystal litter as the wooden one didn't stop any smells and left tracks everywhere and so did the clay type one

We use the Bob Martin Felight.

If your kitten has white paws I would advise you to avoid Tesco low dust litter, it will turn them pink. Anyway I'm pretty sure it's obligatory to post pics of new arrivals on here so do keep us posted OP

I've been trying a few out recently as we have several cats and one of our boys had taken to using the floor to poo on - even when the trays were clean. RAGE!

Anyway - we were previously using wood pellet litter which was ok (we thought) for smell control but a bit of a pest to clean as it doesn't clump. We'd previously used catsan which has quite big granules and tracks everywhere, so knew we didn't want that. I ended up ordering about 4 or 5 different types from zooplus and the best by far (for us) was the tigerino canada baby powder. It clumps really well so although it's more expensive per bag I think it's going to work out about the same as the cheap wood pellets as we use far less of it - you never really have to empty the tray fully as it produces proper, solid clumps where they pee. Smell control is also outstanding, I now have to look at the trays to see if they've been used rather than letting my nose guide me!

Catsan, but the 'ultra-clumping' stuff which supermarkets don't seem to stock so we get it in bulk from Zooplus. Small granules; other stuff seemed to get stuck in girl-kittens paws and she hated it. Not bad for odour control, though this is as much about the box as the litter I think.
Ran out recently and DP had to get some Sainsbury's own brand ultra-clumping and it looked very, very similar. We may convert if it's cheaper, but need to check as buying in bulk from Zooplus has kept cost down (but does lead you to think the supply is never-ending, hence the dash to Sainsbos).

I did start a thread in chat, asking for name suggestions but I'm still stumped. I'm getting some more pictures of her today so will start a thread in here and see if anyone comes up with anything

Catsan clumping (it's in an orange bag) NOT the original non clumping in a blue bag, it's shit. It clumps very well and is £5 for 5 litres. I've tried loads of others and have come back to this.

Oko user here too, clumps nicely and no problem with odour

The biggest advantage with oko is that it flushes, no ten gazillion bags of cat litter in the bin.

Yes, and clumps pee, you literally scoop out the pee in a clumped ball and flush, ditto poo.
None is wasted plus it doesn't smell, you rarely have to empty out the trays.

The only problem with OKO is that it tracks everywhere.

So looks like cat San could be the way to go..

What do people find of the crystal type litter?

I find my catsan tracks everywhere so that wouldn't bother me with oko, constantly have to hoover my conservatory after they've been in the tray.

Oko Plus here too, it does track a lot, but being able to flush it makes life so easy (helps if you keep your tray somewhere reasonably near a loo, we carry the tray to the bathroom and scoop there). The poos smell when they are fresh, you know if they've done one, but the odour absorbs pretty quickly so if you come home and they've done one while you're out it won't have stunk the house out. It absorbs wee smell very well. I buy mine in bulk from Fetch who add it to my Ocado order, the big bag lasts us several months with two trays that are used daily.

Marking place (and bumping). We used to use the sainsburys ultra clumping and that was good, but we can't seem to get it now. Their other stuff is crap. Watching with interest!

Another vote for Oko Cats Best. Clumps easily so easy to keep clean and also keeps the smell down too.
I find all cat litter seems to get stuck in paw pads resulting in a trail.

bob martin felight is exactly the same as Tesco's own, and its SHIT, absorbs bugger all and STINKS to high heaven.

with 2 cats now i find the catsan lasts longer and smells much nicer!

Best one I'd found is Sanicat Clumping Gold. Then, (thanks to someone on this board) I was informed Sainsburys Ultra Clumping was just as good. And it is. Waitrose ultra clumping is as good. I think Catsan can be a bit ouchy on small, tender paws.

The piss forms into little balls, rather than a soggy mess at the bottom of the tray. The litter itself has a nice smell.

Also I have a covered tray, so no pissy/poo-ey smells in my teeny tiny kitchen. Remove the flappy door, until kitty gets used to it.

*... and the Sanicat/Sainsburys/Waitrose doesn't track dusty paw prints on your brand new sofa.

Oko all the way. Our tray is by the downstairs loo - any clumps are flushed, no need to empty the whole hing, so cleaning is a doddle. It also virtually eliminates the smell. I wouldn't use anything else.

Another Oko user here, it's perfect except for the tracking.
