Cat GPS tracker recommendations

Hi I really want to buy a GPS locator with a good long range to track my cat who has started not to come in at night. He used to be good as gold coming in at 8pm. Putting a do not red me tag hasn't helped.

So anyone know the best to buy? I'd like to be able to locate him on a map, if this exists and is reliable.

Get him in earlier?
Don't feed later in the day. Train to come into a whistle.
Is he neutered?

Yep he's neutered. Last time he went missing it was from 7am til the following evening. I'm convinced someone has taken a liking to him and is feeding him. If I knew where he is going, I could go and talk to them

I use a Loca8tor (not GPS) on my lads, but have been toying with the idea of getting a Tractive.

These look the proper nuts though. But pricey.

Ensure tracker goes on a quick release safety snap off collar though. Elastic collars can cause horrific injuries.

I thought the pods looked good, but a bit big? I've just ordered pawtracker as the collars look smaller - will report back!

Just taken delivery of pawtrack. There's a set up procedure but seemed to go smoothly. Big Ginger Man will be tracked from tomorrow morning!

Will report back on how well it works - the technology is so new I assume it will only get better but could revolutionise being a cat slave!

We use Loca8tor too. Most of the GPS trackers are quite large for cats to wear on their collars.

Thanks for the article bog. Yep the collar is quite big, he didn't like having it put on - I wouldn't want that struggle every morning so I hope it lasts the 4-5 days they advertise.

With loc8tor - how long is the battery life, do you have the disc? (Tabtrack I think it is called?)

It's useful isn't it. Am thinking of the Weecatt which has the facility for you to ring your cat and for them to talk back Grin

How do you find Loc8tor, those who use it? The blurb says it only works for a few hundred feet 'in plain sight', whereas I want something that will tell me whether BBK has buggered off through three of the neighbours gardens and over their garage roof into the vicinity of the road out front.

Ideally I want a version of those shopping trolley things which will bring him to a dead half if he exits the specified area. Anyone invented those yet?

The loc8tor is a bit like a game of "hot and cold"... I have tracked down a missing cat using it though. It beeps faster when you are near the cat and slows down when you are further away... I found my cat when he was a few blocks away and in a neighbours garden. GPS would be probably a lot better, and I did originally want GPS but I couldn't find anything that was small enough and I didn't want to weigh his neck down too much with technology!

Ha ha the shopping trolley that stops in its tracks would be amazing!

Oh dear pawtrack isn't proving too good so far - waved him off this morning and he's been out for a few hours. But the tracker says he's at home and within my wifi range. He isn't!

What I liked best about it was the ability to view him on a map but perhaps loc8tor might be a better idea as it actually works

Update: I contacted pawtrack and they have fixed the tracking. I can see him tracked every ten mins now. He's crossed two roads already this morning Shock

We have a Pod 2, it's meant to be the best one out at the moment. Pod 3 is coming out soon too but I'm very happy with the 2 so don't think I'll upgrade till it breaks.

I tried a few and gave up on them. They kept losing the collars and the GPS wasn't accurate enough to find them. Plus v embarrassing to keep asking strangers if I could search their gardens (lots of crawling under bushes).

I hated tabcat when I first got it because it was fiddly to put the batteries in but I love it now. My girl doesn't go to far but as the weathers getting better I imagine she will be out longer. I have thick walls and it picks up from the living room to the back of the wardrobe next door. I do get paranoid that it will run out of batteries when I need it the most though.

This is an old thread but I’ve stopped using tabcat now as she’s not that bothered about going far in this weather. I’m trying to use it for the little one but she won’t keep a collar on
