Do your cats drink water?

I put a bowl of fresh water every day but she hardly ever drinks from it but likes to drink the puddles in the bath or the drips from the tap Confused.

Ditto. Taps and other people's drinks here too. She does have wet food though so I assume she gets most of her water from there.

smoothieooo · 08/03/2016 16:30

Mine never, ever drank the water from his bowl until I read that they don't like the water to be near their food. So I moved his water bowl to a different place in the kitchen and he drinks from it every day (but still likes the bath drips occasionally)!

pilates · 08/03/2016 16:30

Yes, mine has a combination of wet and dry. I have read they do get something from the wet foot, but is that enough?

Smoothieooo, I will try that Smile

My girl cats do. I need to put more out every day.

The boys drink out of the pond or puddles.

ManorMouse · 08/03/2016 16:52

Mine does but only occasionally. Mostly she prefers rain puddles.

Deux · 08/03/2016 17:41

Mine does but only since I changed from a bowl for water to a glass. Classy cat Smile.

He would drink from other people's glasses so I thought I'd try one for him. I just use a small Nutella jar. And this is right next to his food too. But he never eats and drinks at the same time.

I've also got a plant saucer out in the garden that gets filled with rain water and he drinks that too.

iloveeverykindofcat · 08/03/2016 18:58

Rarely. They eat all/mostly raw though, so they don't need to.

Daftaboutthecat · 08/03/2016 19:36

Mine doesn't drink from his water bowl but is on wet food. I add just over a tablespoon of water to his food makes me feel better that he getting some water but vet says he gets sufficient from his food.

sugarplumfairy28 · 08/03/2016 19:59

Cats who are generally fed wet food of one type or another will get their liquid through the food and drink less often. If they are fed dry food they will actively need to take on liquid.

MeDented · 08/03/2016 20:03

My cat refuses water but stands at the fridge meowing really loudly until you give her lacto free milk!

Sunflower1985 · 08/03/2016 20:05

Why my cats were young we notice they only drank from dripping taps, so we bought them a drinking fountain. 7 years on and they still love it. If you're concerned I'd recommend them. Cat-it are the main supplier. We even took it with them to the cattery.

RandomMess · 08/03/2016 20:09

Yes they hunt for water separate to hunting for food hence don't keep the water bowl near the food bowl.

Ours prefer to steal it from the freshest glass of water that has been poured. Obviously running tap is top favourite but we're on a meter. They liked the water fountain but still went off it unless the whole thing was cleaned every few days!

2016namechangecomingalong · 08/03/2016 20:11

Yes we also have a drinking fountain which they like. They never drank from normal bowls before we got it, just from taps.

AwkwardSquad · 08/03/2016 20:17

Yes. She also likes to paddle in her water bowl. Messy little beast.

MakingJudySmile · 08/03/2016 20:19

Yes, drinks form his bowl. Would drink the whole bowl daily. Mostly dry diet

SucculentSoul · 08/03/2016 20:19

Mine will only drink straight from the tap. She sits in the sink in the bathroom and wails until I go turn it on Confused

SparklesandBangs · 08/03/2016 20:19

Yes but only from the glass beside my bed! Or from puddles, we have also given her a glass of her own in the kitchen to try to tempt her to drink.

At night I was balancing a box of tissues or similar on my water glass so I could wake up in the night and have a drink, this just made a game for DCat who sat on the small bedside table working out how to remove the obstacle from her water, often leading to a water spillage.

I now use a small water bottle and she just sits on my head to complain!

user1457463696 · 08/03/2016 20:20

Another mucky puddle drinker here.

mineofuselessinformation · 08/03/2016 20:23

Mine mostly drinks from two utterly revolting dishes outside. If I clean them, he ignores them until they're disgusting again!

Redbindippers101 · 08/03/2016 20:26

From the toilet bowl.

Brindler · 08/03/2016 20:33

Mine would only drink from a glass tumbler placed on the coffee table! People would come round and along would come the cat, reach up and start drinking. Cue them saying 'oh your cats drinking your drink!' 'No it's actually his' 😳

TheNoodlesIncident · 08/03/2016 22:43

Ours have a bowl of water but I've only seen them sniff it, no actual drinking.

They get their drinks of water from our bedside glasses - in fact I've just been asked to replace DS's because the kitten currently snuggled up with him had been lapping it...

DramaAlpaca · 08/03/2016 22:45

Mine mainly drink from the garden pond.

Sometimes ginger boy will ask for water to be put in the bathroom basin for him, or he'll help himself from someone's glass of water.
