Shaking head

I have a 16 week old kitten. Yesterday I took him to the vet as he was shaking his head occasionally and I could see black wax in his ears. The vet nurse examined his ears with a torch thingy and cleaned them with cotton buds. She looked at the residue under a microscope and said there was no sign of mites. He was due a flea treatment so he had one which she said would also treat mites however today he is shaking his head more than ever. Should I take him back to the vet!

I would, 16 weeks is very young.

Got appointment for 10:30 just getting ready to take him.

He did have ear mites deep in ear canal ears have been cleaned again and he has had drops . He is not happy :(

Ah well. Hopefully that will clear it up for a while at least.

I hope that they gave you some concession on treatment costs as a matter of course?

Not really yesterday's treatment was free and today's cost £18. He looks such a mess , his fur is all spiky and greasy and he is still shaking his head.

My dog has an earmite problem, they have been treated, but they still recur failry regularly. She does shake her head for a while after a treatment- I assume the dead and dying mites are v. itchy, and the debris itself is irritating. As your cat has had his ears cleaned he should feel more comfortable soon. I hope so as he looks highly displeased!!

It sounds as if you might just have been charged for the meds, Mouse - more or less. That would seem fair enough to me.

Yes the vets are very fair.
The kitten is asleep on my lap now. I just hope he'll be ok I am a wimp when pets aren't well.

I'm dreading trying to put drops in later!

He looks fairly 'easy' sleeping there. Is there any head shaking or such in his sleep?

You have to give the meds though - no option on this one.

No head shaking in his sleep. He seems better this morning much less head shaking (if any). Between us my husband and I can manage the drops. He is a much happier boy today and is currently stalking dh' newspaper while he has a Saturday lie in!

Hope his mites clear up soon.

Have to say, he looks adorable, even when a bit grumpy! But I have an adult ginger male so maybe I'm biased :-)

He looks HUGE for 16 weeks. btw.

I have just counted and he is actually 18 weeks now. He was born on 30th October and I have had him for 4 weeks today. He weighs 2.11k now and was 1.65 when I got him. He is very cuddly and purry and we will get a friend for him when the right one comes along.
