Left cat outside in the cold

Am I the worst cat owner ever? This morning dd woke up at 5am for a bottle so I let the cat out at the same time. In my half asleep state I took dd back to bed and went back to sleep myself, completely forgetting she was still outside. We have a cat flap but she doesn't like using it. She was crying to come inside and sounded really distressed I feel awful!

She was outside for 4 hours

Is she young and healthy? If so, she should be fine - although you'll get it in the neck for not attending to her.

You might be forgiven by lunchtime I reckon.

And it might encourage her to use the cat flap more. Lazy thing.

Yeah she's young and in good health. She's currently giving me the look of disgust whilst sitting on my lap for warmth poor girl.

Ah she'll be alright. They're hard as nails those things.

Oh she'll milk it right enough. Cats are awarded Masters degrees in manipulation almost at birth!

Ours goes out about 2 minutes before dh gets home in the winter and does the "thank god your home, she's locked me out and I've been out for hours" routine when he pulls up.

Then I get dh telling me off because the cats freezing out there

Mine often stayed out all night even in winter. She had lots of dense bushes to go under.

I think I'm forgiven. She's had some tuna for dinner and extra dreamies throughout the day so this morning is a distant memory

She's not been out since though, I think she's worried I'll not let her back in!

She has a cat flap! Which I assume she knows how to use - even though she may not like it as much as your attention.

What are you doing letting her in and out??

She does know how to use it but I'm too soft and always end up being her doorwoman

I try to keep mine in at night but some nights they are still roaming when I do a last call before bed... and in the morning I have pissed off faces pressed to the patio doors

They survive..they are furry! And in the day if they go out after breakfast then they are out til I get home around 4pm... I have never felt guilty; it's their choice to go out. One of mine actually likes rain and asks to go out..weirdo cat! Then again she also likes hunting frogs which may have something to do with it!

If she was that cold she would have come back in!!! Silly sod.

Our always get chucked out at night!

I have them in for safety reasons, Umbongo. I always did in any case - the local joyriders etc - but watching a group of young and hungry foxes dispose of something that I'm certain was a cat in the street below me one night underlined my thoughts. (We have a large urban fox population round here.)
