vomity cat (warning - details given!)

Our lovely cat has been vomiting - about 2 days every week for the last 3 weeks (could be more as he goes out). He seems fine in between and is still eating - 2 pouches/ day and small bowl of biscuits. The vomit is dark brown, smells disgusting ( I thought it was diarrhoea initially) and is mainly undigested biscuits and brown liquid. He has lost a bit of weight since Xmas but he was a bit porky so we have reduced his biscuits and he now looks normal weight.
Should I stop his biscuits/ change the brand (always had Iams) /take him to the vets???

I'd take him to the vets, but I'm probably influenced by our dear departed LandingCat developing a chronic inflammatory gut problem which made him vomit. We had to adjust his diet as well as have him on steroids to deal with it. How old is your cat? LandingCat was in his teens before we got ill.

Totally agree with previous poster. I would take him to the vets. It's probably nothing but one of my previous boys used to vomit often but seemed fine in between. I know exactly what you mean about it looking and smelling like diarrhoea. My boy had pancreatitus. Awful illness.

I'd vet him for a proper checkup just to clear the ground if nothing else. When was he last there?

He had his jabs last sept and hasn't needed to go back. Thanks all - will definitely book him in for a check up then

I have just had this with our cat and took her to the vets. They said it could be a number of things and treated her with a course of antibiotics incase it was a tummy bug, wormed her again incase as picked up a worm recently, and gave us some hairball treatment incase she had a stuck hairball. It does seem to be exacerbated by her dry food so I changed the brand and she's been ok since all of this (touch wood). If it starts up again im taking her back as then they will start going down the blood test route etc. She is also 2.

I would take your cat to the vet anyway just to get him checked over and make sure he's not dehydrated or anything - it might put your mind at rest a bit if the vet examines him to check for any foreign bodies he might have swallowed.

Out, did the vet suggest a different brand of dry food or did you just try another one?

I just tried a different one as I noticed the vomiting episodes were worse when she'd had the dry food. Im not too worried at the moment as the vet examined her all over and couldn't see/feel anything worrying but said if it carried on after all the treatments then we should go back for more tests.
