worms - what else do I need to do?

Vets booked for check up for girl cat tomorrow anyway, so taking boy cat as well to get checked.

Cat puke this evening. Big white thing - thought it was string. Alas no. Not sure which cat. Checked Calendar - they were last wormed on October 1st so I'm over a month late :-( feel shit.

Ran out and got worming tablets and have treated both cats tonight (weighed and both over 2kg so a whole tablet each)

Have emptied and bleached litter trays and bleached food bowls.

Have checked for fleas, nothing I can see.

What else do I need to do? I think it's boy cat. Neither go outside, but I think they've got them from general dirt and bugs tbh from Google.

I feel awful. I have never had a pet with worms, and feel like the worst owner totally. Will the vet judge me? I honestly just missed the date and knew I was seeing them tomorrow (appt booked two weeks ago) so thought I'd get flea and worm medicine again then. There's been no outward signs either :-(

Normally it's three monthly for worms - knowing one had them, so I treat monthly for a while?

I've also treated the kids as they are under ten and notorious for putting fingers in mouth (obviously used human tablets for them not cat ones!)

It happens and it's not the end of the world. Be aware though that bleach is dangerous to cats and it's best to avoid it. Hot water and detergent will do the job just as well and much more safely.

What wormers are you using? The off the shelf ones don't really work. You need Milbemax or Drontal or another one I've forgotten the name of.

I would ask you vet about frequency. It's probably best to stick to the guidelines.

Thank you. I ended up using the active oxygen cleaning stuff. I used a wormer from inside the lock cabinet at pets at home? I'll take the box with me to vets to show them, I usually get my stuff from them.

Have felt cats bellies and they seem fine, solid stools still and no more sick. I feel really bad!

Yes the stuff from inside the locked cabinet is fine. Stop beating yourself up!

As TCN said, it happens. No need to feel bad - just check that you use a broad-spectrum wormer in future. (There are a few wormers around that just don't cover the whole range of worms and many people don't realise that.)

I think tbh it was the month over, along with the fact they have grown so much so the dose they had in October may not have been enough.

I'm paranoid about checking their litter tray now!

No, it just came in a clear bag from the vets, a little blister pack.

I've brought my box I used yesterday to the vets, and will show them now. Just waiting.

Had wet litter and normal stools with no signs today so far. #kittylitterwormwatch

Cats given complete clean bill of health. Comments on their good skin and coats, and their nature. Weighed and they're massive - and vet confirmed the wormer was shit that I gave last night, but better than nothing. Fully topped up with wormer for in a months time, and three months after that. Girl cat booked in for her spay and microchip next TueSday too :-)

That's good - and good that girlcat is getting spayed and chipped. (Has boycat already been done?)

Yes, he's done! They are 9 months old - he was done last august, but they were play fighting too much still for me to get her done, the recovery time would have clashed with me being away for a long weekend (friends coming in to feed them) and I couldn't have risked her not having 24/7 care post op. I got him done as it was simpler (though we did have a small issue it was quickly fixed) and I wanted no baby cats!

I'm off from Friday until 22nd, and although we have plans, we will only be away for a few hours at a time. So can be at home for the first five days post op :-)
