Sort of hand holding / cheer me up?

BonzoCat is ill. She's underinsured, but kind of intentionally because I don't really hold with putting an animal through a lot of invasive treatment when the outcome is uncertain. So unless there's a miracle recovery over night, I suspect she'll be PTS. She's only 5, quirky little tuxedo. But with "raised liver parameters", refusing to eat or drink, some diarrhoea and watery vomiting I'm not holding out much hope.

Anyone else had similar? Did your cat pull through? What did it take? Did it recurr?

Ouch. Has the vet given a view on what's wrong?

Lots of closeness and talking to her, anyway.

Take care.

bonzo77 · 06/02/2016 22:21

Thank you for replying. I'm feeling very sad about her. She's in hospital on IV fluids so no cuddles. Actually she hates cuddles anyway. Likes an ear or face scratch. God I'm crying over the bloody cat. Vet thinks perhaps pancreatitis. They can do an ultrasound tomorrow to look at her liver. I don't know if they will find anything treatable. I'm sort of hoping they find something hopeless so the decision is made. I know she'll perk up with the fluids but it'll be an illusion as the pathology will still be there and she'll relapse as soon as they're withdrawn.

I have such bad luck with cats. Previous cat went AWOL and never reappeared (4 years ago and we've moved since). And cat before that (AWOL cat's mother) was PTS after pretty similar scenario as BonzoCat. She was also about 5 and a Tuxedo. I'm not having another female Tuxedo after this. I think.

5 is so very young. Fingers crossed that she improves meaningfully overnight, anyway.

Go try to get some sleep yourself - she'll be being looked after where she is.

Let us know how things are tomorrow.

Hi, sorry to read this. Our cat was found to have elevated liver parameters at her MOT last year. The ultrasound showed a mishapen bile duct and a stone (apparently the stone is unusual). She was treated for cholangitis (inflammation of bile duct/liver) which was antibiotics and a liver supplement. This was successful however the stone then caused problems basically presenting with the same symptoms as your cat minus the diarrhoea. Our vet suspected pancreatitis along with a recurrence of the cholangitis. She was referred and had surgery to clear out the bile duct. They took biopsies of liver, pancreas and small intestine all of which were inflamed and was diagnosed with triaditis which is inflammation of liver, pancreas and IBD. She had more antibiotics and steroids and is now on a hypoallergenic diet.
Basically the problems can be treated with medication assuming it is that. The biliary stone was unusual and our cat is now 13 so hopefully your younger cat won't be affected by that.
Ours is also a female B&W. She has some off days but is doing ok.
Apologies this is so long but basically there could be a good outcome for your cat. I understand any specialist referral is out but with medication hopefully she can bounce back.
I'm no vet but I did learn quite a bit on this condition last year! Hope she's ok.

vino what you've written is pretty much what dr Google said. I hope she pulls through. Of course.

I'm still up as the baby needed a bottle. Felt a bit odd not to have the cat loitering eyeing up the milk. Oh. This cat has sat through night feeds with 3 babies. Licked food off their faces when I weaned them. Slept in their buggy, car seat, bouncers and cots. Jealously head butted them to get on my lap, and then sat on them while I fed. The baby loves it when her tail tickles his face.

After our cat had been on fluids and antibiotics at the vets she did perk up quite a bit. Hopefully the ultrasound can help with a further diagnosis.
Is horrible when they're not at home and you miss them getting in the way.
Sending positive thoughts your way and I hope you can get some sleep.

cozietoesie · 07/02/2016 09:09

Any news yet this morning?

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 07/02/2016 09:13

Keeping fingers, toes and paws crossed here for BonzoCat. I really hope medication is the answer and you get better news soon.

Vinorosso74 · 07/02/2016 09:52

Another one wondering if you had any news?

SevenOfNineTrue · 07/02/2016 10:20

My cat had pancreatitis but was treated in hospital and recovered well the two times he had it.

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/02/2016 10:55

I've had acute pancreatitis with raised liver enzymes. Obviously I'm not a cat, but I was very sick for 48hrs. then got better quite rapidly and have been fine ever since. Hope she pulls through x

bonzo77 · 07/02/2016 12:36

Update. Different vet on duty this morning. BonzoCat is perkier after fluids but still not eating. Vet not going to scan her as she thinks the liver parameters are not "wildly" out and the blood in urine might be an artefact of the collection technique. So no real answers really. She's going to try to get her to eat and will call later to update.

Ds1 has finally noticed her absence. Heartless little shit wants to know if we can get more cats when she dies. I'll forgive him, he's only 5.

cozietoesie · 07/02/2016 12:41

Sometimes they can get into a 'thing' of not eating and you have to find some way of getting the system going again. Do you know if she's peeing and pooing?

Fingers still crossed for her here.

Wolfiefan · 07/02/2016 12:49

Another one with fingers crossed. Xx

Vinorosso74 · 07/02/2016 12:53

Glad she's perked up at least. Am sure the nurses will try all sorts to get her to eat, they seem to know the tricks.
Hopefully she improves and they can get he to eat.
As for your DS, what can I say?! Poor cat.

bonzo77 · 07/02/2016 13:33

She's weed. I sign her kidneys are working. But she's not actually drinking, it's the IV fluids. She's not pooed, but she's not eaten for 3-4 days and had diarrhoea on Friday, so there's not much to pass I guess. The vet nurse is going to try her with tuna mayo as that's usually something she can't resist.

Another update. Little bigger is home and seems normal. Eating and drinking. Has some anti acid meds to take and some pro biotics. Fingers crossed she stays well. Even DH admits he missed her!

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/02/2016 21:20

cozietoesie · 08/02/2016 21:24

Good news. Smile

Vinorosso74 · 08/02/2016 21:53

Just came on to see if there was an update. Glad she's home and doing ok. Am also pleased it wasn't anything more serious.

iloveeverykindofcat · 09/02/2016 12:56

Hooray! So glad to hear!
Funnily enough they gave me anti acid things too. Ozemeprozale or something.

SevenOfNineTrue · 09/02/2016 17:46

Great news!

MissFlight · 09/02/2016 18:37

Excellent news Smile

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 09/02/2016 20:03
