Over the counter, drontal cat xl. But on prescription, profender spot on would be easier for you & him. Normally you'd talk about most appropriate parasite control for his lifestyle at his annual vet health check then the vet can go through options depending on individual risk.

I'm lousy on tablets I'm afraid because Seniorboy regards any sort of pill as an instrument of the devil (even his vet wouldn't bother now) so we use spot-on wormer.

PS. - it's Profender that we use. I

Do you find the spot on as effective as a tablet?

Hmm. He simply wouldn't get a tablet down and I'm fairly good now about applying spot-on so I'd have to judge Yes. He's an indoor cat who doesn't hunt, though, so it's really only a prophylactic and given about every 6 months. An outside-going hunter, I'd dose more frequently.

Thank you, I'll drop by the vets to see which one they think would be most beneficial, x

They are as effective as each other and have same breadth of coverage. Profender is a prescription medication. There are over the counter spot ons available but they don't have full coverage.

What was yor vets recommendation for him?

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/01/2016 08:46

Tablets I prefer milbemax nice shape small slips down easily has won awards to it's ease of administration.

amysmummy12345 · 16/01/2016 13:57

So I went to the vets, spoke to the receptionist as vet was busy. They only had milbemax in stock for small cats and kittens, which is no where near strong enough for my big lad... Will pop back in during the week when they've replenished their stock.

We have 10 cats, not only is trying to get tablets into 10 a nightmare not all of ours can keep down a worming tablet. We use a paste called Panacur, which is also available as a liquid. It works brilliantly and mine find that a lot easier to stomach, and we find it a lot easier to give to them.
