My poor babies have fleas!

OH and I feel awful - we had a baby in September and in the postnatal blur that followed we forgot to deflea our lovely cats. We realised the other day and put a treatment on them but by then it was too late, they'd got fleas :(

We have sprayed the house, combed them and consistently checked them and can no longer see any fleas and the amount of flea poop is reducing so I think they are almost, if not already, gone. We are keeping them indoors until they're flea free which they are not happy about at all.

My question is how long does it take for flea bites to heal? They are still scratching like mad, I feel so bad for them! Is there anything that we can do to help (I read up about bathing them but can't imagine how we can possibly do that without getting torn to shreds?!) should I be taking them to the vets to get checked over?

Defleaing the cats is now a monthly event in our calendar!!

It happens. Some people forget for various reasons - or are uncaring - and still get away with it. Most don't. What potions are you using?

Don't beat yourself up - we deflea ours and they still bloody get fleas! Just treat it when you see it and don't worry.

I thought you only had to treat in spring/summer?

Fleas are equal opportunity infesters. (Unless you live in Boulder, Colorado, perhaps. (I don't know whether cat fleas won't live above a certain altitude like dog fleas. ))

It might get worse in high summer possibly but I would treat at any time of year.

PS - and that may actually be Aspen. (Or it may be an urban myth given I've never lived in either! )

We let them out today as the mum (we have mum and kitten - although not so much a kitten anymore!) was desperate to get out! Figured the treatment (Effipro) has had enough time to work by now if any do get on them from outside. We used Acclaim on the house and have Advantage spot on to use next month.

Thanks cozietoesie - they have coped a lot better than we were expecting them to. Night time feeds end up being a bit of a nightmare as when I get up they think it's playtime and start thundering around the house! They steer clear of her but haven't shown any signs of stress which is what I was worried about, as the mum really didn't cope well when we first brought them home.

Might be a bit different when DD starts being mobile!
