My Billy is 8 - he has had a brain tumour for 18 months

He has lost a lot of weight, is wobbly and now can't jump up or down, hurts himself running down stairs etc. He wont go outside - he used to love the outdoors but now he cowers and hides under the hutch and doesn't move

He wont use any litter trays - he poos and wees all over

He's a shadow of his former glorious cuddly amazing catboy self :(

I know the time is right - I am sat in tears - I can't face it

Poor Billy. This must be really hard for you OP, they really do become members of the family. I wish I had something profound to say but as a cat owner you really have my hugest sympathies, I can only imagine how you're feeling Flowers

Sorry to hear about Billy. Ii is so hard. I have been in a similar position with my 2 cats but they were very elderly so there was more of a sense of a life well-lived & coming to an end. I guess you need to think about Billy's quality of life & what is the kindest thing for him. He can't tell you what he wants so he relies on you to weigh the options up & make the decision. Really tough for you. Flowers

Poor lad, he's too young isn't he? It's such a hard decision.

It sounds like it would be the kindest thing to do for Billy, tbh. If you think he's suffering, it's probably time.

I've read it on here many times - better a day too soon than a day too late.

Thanks x It is a quality of life issue - Drama the 'day too soon' thing is spot on - I don't want him in pain

He is the most amazing cat - all three kids have mauled played with him and loved him - he's like Bagpuss - soppy and resigned to being loved

He's never bitten or scratched - but recently he did bite my youngest and he looked so sad :(

I have to think that it's best for him - but it's breaking my heart

He sounds so lovely ghosty. My heart goes out to you

cozietoesie · 11/11/2015 23:10

The decision isn't for you and the family after all - but just for him.

I think you can make it, ghosty.

Take care.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 11/11/2015 23:17

It's an act of love, it really is :(
I've made that call a number of times and I know I did the right thing. They were loved very much and it was to stop the pain. He's biting, he doesn't want to be bothered.
It's time to step up and be the bigger person :( :(

ghostyslovesheep · 12/11/2015 13:27

Made an appointment with the vet tomorrow - if they can't do anything to make him happier then I think it will be kindest :(

thank you cat people Thanks

This is the right decision and you will be happier in the future for having made it, however hard it is now.

cozietoesie · 12/11/2015 17:31

People will be around if you want to talk.

Take care.

MimsyBorogroves · 12/11/2015 17:36

Sending you love. It is the hardest thing, but ultimately the biggest kindness you can give them in such situations.

Pipestheghost · 12/11/2015 17:42

My thoughts are with you op Flowers

TheoriginalLEM · 12/11/2015 17:46

Thinking of you - its the right thing to do Flowers

DramaAlpaca · 12/11/2015 20:55

Handholding for tomorrow, OP Flowers

GiddyOnZackHunt · 13/11/2015 14:53

Flowers for whatever news today has brought.

ghostyslovesheep · 13/11/2015 17:15

Thanks so much x

He's gone - it was very peaceful and I was able to stay with him - the kids where there - middle one stayed outside - eldest left at the end (he was her cat) and little one patted him gently then they all came in to say goodbye once he was gone.

It's heartbreaking - worst was bringing home an empty cat box - he's being cremated x

So we are all sad and teary but I am happy it was the best thing for him x

Thanks for the hand holding Thanks

RIP Billy. That's a lovely photo, he looks like he is smiling!

cozietoesie · 13/11/2015 17:59

I'm so sorry. What a great boy he was.

You did the right and loving thing.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 13/11/2015 19:12

Sleep tight Billy
Glad it was peaceful ghostys

DramaAlpaca · 13/11/2015 22:04

Oh ghosty, what a beautiful boy he was.

You've done the best thing for him. Glad you were all able to say goodbye.

Wolfiefan · 13/11/2015 22:07

That's a gorgeous photo. You did the right thing. Absolutely the right thing. You are suffering but he is not.
Eventually you will be able to remember the good things and all the reasons you love him to bits.

mineofuselessinformation · 13/11/2015 22:09

It's a hard decision, but the kindest one when you feel a pet is suffering.
Sorry you had to make it.
