Cats & Sofas

....are cats genetically programmed to be attracted to living room soft furnishings? :)

Had to have a makeshift sofa for a month (inflatable travel bed thingy) & no matter how many of his favourite blankets i put on, Jake would not go near it.

Finally got new sofa yesterday & immediately the two were drawn together like magnets, no hesitation, straight on & 'aaaaah' :)

So funny I wanted to post (also good excuse for kitty pics) :) :)

Seniorboy doesn't look at the sofas - because he has his own scratching chair. The family are itching to turf it out (and to be fair, even I think it looks disreputable and I'm used to second hand furniture) but he's very deeply attached to it.

Yes - I think it's programming.

Noooo, don't turf out the chair cozie, it's a very necessary & much loved item for your furry family member. My favourite cat blog advocates giving them their own chair to do what they want with (no matter how old & raggedy :))

Also a kindred spirit since my Jake was forced to live outside with only a rickety shed & a handful of cheap cat biscuits once a day for company.

Now he's a sofa dwelling, food & fuss demanding, cheeky 6am toe biter of a teenager (well 4 this week but behaving like a rowdy moody teen :))

So lovely & satisfying seeing them so comfy & happy now isn't it?

9 years!! Crikey, that is a long time, no wonder he (she?) turned into six dinner sid, survival instinct i presume.

Jake still gets fed on demand because of his deprivation years, read somewhere that it takes a while for cats like that to lose the panic of where their next meal will come from so am re-programming so his brain will accept the new message that there will always be plenty now.

Even though he milks it & tries it on for chicken & prawns at 3.30 am :) :)

Here he is when i first met him - could only get him to put his head around the door gingerly for food & he still has the wild look (& matted fur) to him.

That was March last year, he's a fast trainer of soft hearted humans i give him that!

Ollie prefers a catnip scratch box or a human....

Ha ha ha - i thought it was only dogs that pulled the 'poorly paw' trick, how adorable, the little face!

Hollinhurst - Ollie is a marvel of a cat too - very good taste too, nothing finer than cardboard combined with catnip (and/or a human limb or two :))

I'm typing this perched in my hallway, typing with one hand while trying to wear Jake out with his favourite game.

'push the stick under the matt' it's called - the blimmin stick from his fancy cat feather toy no less. Not bothered by the proper function of the toy, obsessed with the stick instead.

That, or chewing on a plastic coat hanger - don't know who needs a therapist more - me or him :)

There is room for nobody else on our sofa -our mainecoon stretches out fully he is 22lbs in weight and over a metre long fully stretched.

Sometimes I squeeze on beside him and he flops his legs onto my lap .
