2 uncared for cats

I live in a garden flat and in the street behind me there are cats who must be a year old now... There were some new build houses, a couple with a child bought one and they got 2 female kittens who are now about a year.

They're small but seem fed, but are out all the time,late at night and they have no cat flap. I've seen them shut the door on one of the cats when it tried to enter their front door eg not let it in. I think their child has got tired of them. They're very friendly cats.

Anyway their house is up for sale now and I was wondering - would it be really insensitive to ask if they wanted their cats and if not we can rehome? I could take one or a neighbour with 2 girls would like them.

Or is this really rude?

Ah I forgot - they seem unloved... And uncared for but must get fed, whether by the owners or other people I don't know.

I think it's how you phrase it, you could say your cats have been coming into my garden and are so friendly. If you ever wanted to re-home them I'd love to have them.

I have met some people for whom animals are always to be kept outdoors, I cant see the point myself but they would consider themselves good owners regardless.

Fluffy it's not just my garden it's all the gardens in these 2 streets...

I think someone a neighbour did ask if one of the cats belonged to them once (as we wondered if they were strays) and got a death stare and a yes - but it was when I saw someone slam the door on the cat, to not let it in, I knew it was their cat too, and they have no cat flap, I thought that was rather cruel. They're out at all times of day and night though less so now. I think personally if they have no shelter then that is cruel.

If I do ask I will go down your route though the friendly option!
