Does anyone have a ragdoll??

We're going to view a mumma ragdoll Saturday, her kittens are due in 4 weeks! So.excited.

What should I look for and ask?

What's a good name for a ragdoll?

I'm hoping for a male and they are going to be blue bicolour :-)

I haven't had one myself but I think there are several posters who do so maybe keep a weather eye on this thread.

Is this to be your first cat or just your first ragdoll?

look for ragdoll cat owner forums online these are the people to ask questions of as they will all be experienced ragdoll owners , also the breeder should be able to tell you most things about her cat temprement , traits etc
research before you go ahead is really the best way to go

I have a ragdoll and I just love her. She is the best of both worlds between having a dog and a cat. Ragdolls love people and mine follows me everywhere I go when Im home. She will play fetch and is so smart.

You need to check with the breeder to be sure that her cats are pure and have been tested for feline leukemia and aids. True Rags have been bred to where there is no disease. If you get a Rag, do not have them vacinated for either or you will give them the disease. Rags are very trustworthy and can not be let out as they do not know fear.

My Rag is a blue point that I called BluBelle. Attached is a photo of her helping me do laundry. I have to check everytime the machine door is open as she loves to hop on in.

I'm unclear on how vaccinating an animal gives it the disease.

Wouldn't they all die if we gave them flu and leukeamia once a year?

That doesn't mean they wouldn't be the right pet for you though!

Most importantly they should have been tested for HCM and PKD. Don't buy from someone who hasn't bothered, they are backyard breeders with no regard for the health of the kittens.

Mine are rescues so didn't have them from kittens. Took about a year for them to fully show their personalities, but they didn't come from a neglected/ abused background.

One is very lazy and doesn't really do much. That one is a bully to my other cats and can generally be a bit of a grump. The other one is more playful. They aren't lap cats and although they can be held upside down in true ragdolls style they certainly don't enjoy it. Both enjoy affection, but only on their terms. They don't lash out which I suppose would be good for children, but you have to be much more in tune with them and recognise their dislikes/ unhappiness as they won't communicate it with a swat of the paw. Neither are particularly vocal, although one makes a whingey sound when told off! Neither are the sharpest tools in the box and they would be an utter liability to themselves if allowed outside.

Both enjoy snuggling under blankets which is quite cute!

They need regular grooming despite their silky coat to avoid lugs/ knots.

My mum has one ,he's 14 now remarkably as he has had numerous health issues from 16 weeks old - and he's extremely well bred ! He's an indoor boy ,has to have a constant temperature so heating on overnight etc and fans if it gets hot in the summer . He's not a lap cat but will sit next to people but it's very much on his terms ,he's noisy ,demanding and despite having loads of scratch posts has wrecked carpets and furniture . He doesn't have all the cat vaccinations / flea treatment as he is allergic to everything and has to have anti histamines before any drugs .

I have a Ragdoll, she's a year old and I can honestly say she is adorable, my husband and I are completely soppy about her and neither of us are usually like this. She is the sweetest, gentlest thing you could ever find, she follows me about all day and likes to be nearby although she's not needy or attention-seeking - she is very nosey though. She's very loving and both my other cats really love her, even my semi-feral cat who is usually very timid. She's playful and clever too and learns things quickly by watching me or the other cats. She taps me on the leg with her front paws so I pick her up when she wants a cuddle, sleeps quietly on the end of the bed when I'm asleep and I've never known her do anything destructive.

I have had many cats over the years, lots of moggies and two other pedigrees and, after having her, I will always have a Ragdoll now. I reckon they're the best of cats and dogs rolled into one.

Definitely make sure you get a Ragdoll kitten from a reputable breeder and that they are HCM & PKD free. If the breeder doesn't have proof of the kitten being genetically tested and free of these conditions then DON'T buy them. Also make sure they have pedigree papers. You see a lot of adverts on kittenlist etc saying the kittens are pedigree because their parents have pedigree papers but they don't have papers themselves. Don't be taken in by this as it means the kittens are being bred for money and you have no proof they're pedigrees - which doesn't matter if you're not bothered but does matter if you're paying a lot of money for a pedigree.

Hey all. I have put a deposit down on a gorgeous little boy. I'm so excited!! Here he is! He's a seal colour point!

Here's my girl, she's a seal colourpoint and she's 6. She was a rescue and we have had her for a year now I have to be careful around open doors else she would run out and she's totally an indoor cat. She's also rather dim and fell off the arm of the sofa this morning onto dp's toast and scattered it then ran off and hid from the toast!. She's not a lapcat as such but will lie next to you if she's in the mood.
She's a sweetie and has never tried to scratch or bite, you see the cat tree in the photo? I bought it so she could always escape the kids if she needs to and she loves it! You probably know already that raggies can be big, especially the males so consider a tall scratching post

Yes they get quite big and funnily enough I recognise the "lying next to you rather than on you" thing. Alfie does lie on me occasionally but usually he cuddles up.
