Has it ever worked introducing a kitten to a Alpha cat?

Dh thinks it hasn't. Asbo did have a best friend once who was black but I cant really go back and kidnap him. He was happier when he had a little friend to go around with.

I'm thinking a female black one called Georgie might work.

Asbo is a special case I think. Isn't there a strong chance that he would actually eat it?

Do adult cats kill kittens though?. It's not a "thing" with them like it is with Lions is it?.

It would be company for him while I'm out.

No one? No other bengal owners?

I really think a mate might help.

I'm probably the wrong person to opine on this having had a long line of naturally Spartan alpha cats who couldn't see another cat without reaching behind them to select an arrow from their quiver.

I'm just mindful of ASBO's apparent character as you've described it over the piece. Doesn't he head out to beat up all comers in the neighbourhood? Because if you take in a kitten, you've got to try to give it a great life - and it could go very well indeed! Or very badly.

What would be your impartial assessment of ASBO's character?

I've never owned a Bengal, do they have specific territorial issues? Have brought new kittens home a few times and never had an issue with them not getting on. They have usually been different genders. But we did have a very alpha male cat, king of the street, brought a kitten home that we thought was female but turned out to be a boy. They got on great, older cat taught him everything he knows!

Yes - it might work very well if you found just the right kitten. One who was a natural wingman for example. ASBO has always come across to me as bit of a loner though. Only Fluffy can really make the call on this I think.

I have a Bengal. He's 1 and not seen another cat (except through a window) since 16 weeks. I too think he'd appreciate a playmate so I'm getting a kitten next week (non-Bengal) to see how they get on. The kitten is actually for someone else, I'm looking after it temporarily so it's not an issue if they don't get on.

The fear of failure puts me off because you cant really send a kitten back to a rescue if it doesn't work out and I couldn't consign a black one to a life in a cattery waiting to be adopted and being over looked.

We have two black cats on the street and he doesnt get as agitated about them but maybe they are far enough away not to bother him.

Interestingly asbo used to be his best friends wingman. He followed him around with slavish devotion.

I had an Alpha cat (he even expressed his dominance towards the men in the house and faught youg males in the street until he passed way). Males cats were not tolerated, but he once had to share the flat with a young female and they played famously together. Present cat is a bengal and she does not tolerate other cats at all, but not for territorial reasons but rather bc she is an anxious cat.

You know your cat best, but I would think it is a different game between two cats being friends outside and sharing the same home.
Maybe a local shelter would accept to let you foster temporarily a kitten with the option to keep it if all goes well.

My Tonkinese boy (now aged almost 18) loves kittens, all kittens. He twice kitnapped next door's new kitten from their house and once, when it was old enough to go out, he brought it here. They are still friends 12 months later.
We had to have his sister put to sleep this morning and we will eventually get a new kitten for him as much as for us.

If he doesn't get one himself, Pranma - from the sound of it. Hope he's doing sort of OK.

Thanks cozie. He has been looking for her and sleep in the box rather than his basket on Monday night but today he went next door to call on his young friend. Dh says they went down to the pub for a bit of male bonding but I am less sure. He (cat) is currently on the windowsill snoring loudly.

That doesn't look (and sound) too bad, Pranma - perhaps her illness gave him some adjustment time.

Thanks I'll let you know when we get a kitten but I want to wait a while (New Year) as I miss my Kedicat but if Haggis frets I'll think about it earlier. There is always room for one more kitten.
