Where to find two tabby kittens (female)??

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/10/2015 20:41

I recently lost my precious pet and really can't bear a cat-less house, so am very keen to adopt a couple of kittens - female tabbies if possible, since I've always had she-cats and frankly long for a snoring tabby or two Smile

Troubles is, nobody seems to have any; they say shelters are overrun, but finding "my two" is proving a real problem

I live in the east midlands and wondered if anyone can suggest somewhere I've not thought of ... or even if anyone would consider me if they have such kittens who need a really good, loving home and a great life ahead??

Aw, get a couple of black cats instead. They always have lovely natures and are often overlooked in shelters.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/10/2015 21:20

What hidden says!

Leavingsosoon · 26/10/2015 21:22

Tabbies are beautiful I agree, but I would wander round your local shelter until you fall in love Smile

Hidden, blacks with green eyes are my favourite but ssh, don't tell my ginger Smile

MissMarpleCat · 26/10/2015 21:24

Black cats are the business Smile

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/10/2015 21:34

Completely agree about black cats - I've had them, they're absolutely beautiful, and I can't understand either why they're so often overlooked in shelters

Only thing is, another black cat would be just too much like the one I recently lost. I know this is stupid, but I honestly don't want to feel I've just "replaced" her - I'd rather start again with something different this time

Oh shame, my wee black girl is my secret favourite, just don't tell the others!
Go to a shelter and choose, and good luck on not coming home with all of them.

Leavingsosoon · 26/10/2015 21:39

I understand that but I also think they are so different - you know? I have two black and whites who are brother and sister and I really struggle to tell them apart but their personalities are completely different. The girl walks round killing everything Hmm climbing on things and bossing the boy around, who prefers lying around sleeping! Xx

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/10/2015 21:43

This is her, Jemima.
She gets into positions like this and then stays there for ages, like she is playing musical statues, she also loves to watch those shit jewellery selling channels on Sky, hunt loaves of bread and erm, fall off the couch.

Shelters are indeed overrun. But they're not shops. They don't stock all colours in all the sizes as it were. You are specifying one of the rarer colours, and also one of the most popular. On top of that you want a pair that are both female. On top of that you are looking at what is now the tail end of kitten season. (While kittens are still coming in there isn't (thank god) the flood that there was during Spring and Summer.)

That is quite a tall order. Most of the litters we get in are black and black and white. Occasionally there will be tabbies and other colours, but they are the ones that everyone wants. We could probably home all our tabby kittens many times over. Whereas our black and black and white ones just sit there, unwanted, and often end up growing up in our care into black and black and white adult cats, which are even less popular than kittens.

It's great that you are considering a shelter, but please have a more open mind about exactly what sort of kittens you would consider. Black and white kittens all look different, and hopefully wouldn't remind you of the one you have recently lost.

HemanOrSheRa · 27/10/2015 02:28

I sort of know what you mean Puzzled. My first kitten of my very own once I'd left home was a b&w. I loved her so very much and she loved me. We went through so much together. She was 17 and a half when she died. I acquired a 10 year old tabby during this time who we loved too. They are all so very different! The two I have now are both b&w. Both are other people's cast offs that I have found through my job. Honestly, they are NOTHING like my first girl in any way. I Love them both Smile

MissMarpleCat · 27/10/2015 03:04

I was waiting you to post TNC

As always good advice Smile

cozietoesie · 27/10/2015 09:14

After Firstcat who was a sealpoint, the family have always had chocolate point Siamese and I can reassure you, Puzzled, that they are nothing like each other either in practice or in our memories. In fact, not only do they all have the same colouring but - because we always have singleton Siamese - they always have the same name! (They're distinguished in the vet records by having add-ons so it's like New Fred, Fat Fred and Fred the Post etc etc but when you call them it's still Fred. Grin)

I'd just go to the rescue and see which are your new cats when you get there. They may be tabbies but they may be black - and may not even be kittens or indeed litter mates! You just can't tell who will look at you hopefully and start stretching to indicate they're ready to come home. Smile

Best of luck.

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 27/10/2015 09:42

I agree with just going along to the rescue centre and looking. I went expecting I would probably go for a female shorthair black cat and ended up with a long overlooked longhair tabby male. Because he friended us in a big way Grin

Phone Wolverhampton Cats Protection.

Almost all the cats near me are tabby (including mine) I think there is a strong tabby gene about.

But do consider other colours/types. I have never actually chosen a cat, they have all been strays or unwanteds, I had tortie, completely white, black and white and tabby and fotered loads, they all have their own personalities

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/10/2015 12:15

Update: I'm trying to be sensible and have arranged to go to a couple of local shelters this week to see what they've got Smile

Will also call Wolverhampton Cats Protection, though - but do they place kittens out of their own exact area, do you know?

I have 5 and I agree black cats have the best personalities, we didn't plan on getting Jeff but when I was at the vets with my tabby he got brought in by the rspca with 2 gingers boys, he stunk and was travel sick all over himself, I knew the gingers would get snapped up and the rescues were full of adult black cats so I agree to take him then and there

I guess you could call the CPL - but I'd almost lay a fiver that you'll find a friend at the first rescue you visit. Wink

Good luck with them, anyway.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/10/2015 14:27

You won't get past the first rescue!

When we adopted H he was in foster care rather than in a rescue. We had arranged to visit two cats, him and a ginger boy that DH had chosen and then we were going to go away and decide which cat was for us...

We met H first and by the end of the visit DH had his chequebook out and we were completing the adoption paperwork. If we hadn't been going away he'd have gone home with us that night!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/10/2015 16:20

I think I might have found them!!!

I've discovered a local lady with two little girls; tabby/white and tortie/white. We've spoken and her priority seems to be getting the right people to take them - she sounds very choosy, which I admire - so I'm hoping 36 years' worth of giving cats a great life will count in my favour

I'm going to see them tomorrow afternoon and will report back, and I promise to post a picture if it all works out Smile

Also all the photos have been wonderful - but Lauren, that one of Jeff in his tux really does take the (cat) biscuit Grin

Stop it, all of you - you're getting me even more excited!!

The lady's accepted me (phew) and I pick them up tomorrow ... they're going to be called Holly and Ivy and I simply can't wait. And yes, photos will follow Smile

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/10/2015 22:09

As with all the others they're just stunning, Lauren - especially Dory the calico

Though in all honestly I have to admit my heart would belong to the tabby!! Grin
